"Kara!" Lena exclaimed happily as she opened her door, not expecting to see her friend already sat on the couch in her office when she walked in that morning, "What can I do for you?"
"You terrify me, you know that right?" Kara sighed, leaning her arm against the back of Lena's couch.
With a confused look, Lena dropped her bag next to her desk before taking the seat next to Kara, "Do you want to tell me why?"
Closing her eyes briefly, Kara tugged on a small knot in her hair absentmindedly as she looked across at Lena's desk, avoiding meeting her eyes for the moment, "I know what you did, I- Supergirl explained to me how the party was a trap for those guys, that it was you who stopped them."
"You want a statement from me about it?" Lena asked cautiously, unsure what Kara was getting at.
"No." Kara said quietly, "I want you to stop doing things like that."
"Kara I-" Lena started lightly.
Kara was quick to cut her off, "Stop, you keep risking your life because you are so desperate to be better than Lex, to prove that you're not like him. Well you've done it, so please stop this before you get yourself killed."
For the first time since Kara had known Lena, there was a barely concealed hint of anger in her eyes directed at Kara. "Kara I know you mean well, but really this is none of your business. The choices I make are not up to you, and after everything my brother did, I'll never be able to convince everyone that I'm not a ticking time bomb just waiting to destroy everything I touch."
"You've convinced me, you convinced me the first day I met you." Kara whispered desperately, "Please, I don't know what I'd do if something happened to you, aren't you already enough of a target without deliberately putting yourself in harm's way?"
Taking a deliberately long breath, Lena looked down at her hands, which were tightly clasped in her lap, "Listen Kara, for the rest of my life I will be looked at with suspicion, I've already accepted that. Is it really so wrong that I want to do everything I can to give myself the same opportunities to make first impressions without the shame of my brother's actions hanging over me?"
"I get it." Kara said softly, "I do, but that doesn't change how scared I feel when I think about you doing things that are so, so dangerous all on your own."
"What aren't you saying?" Lena smiled, her expression soft and open as she watched Kara carefully.
"I- Umm, well- I was just going to say that…" Kara trailed off helplessly, "You know, you should- Well you should really be more careful when you-"
"Kara?" Lena cleared her throat, "Up a little."
Cursing herself, Kara looked up from where she had been staring at Lena's lips, seeing the amusement sparkling in Lena's eyes as she watched Kara open and close her mouth helplessly.
Leaning in slowly, giving Kara plenty of time to pull away if she chose to, Lena brought their lips together, gently cupping Kara's cheek in her hand.
After a few seconds, but what felt like forever to Kara, Lena pulled back and considered Kara's eyes before nodding slowly, "Fine, I won't go off on my own anymore. From now on, I promise that if I come up with any plans, I will call you first…Supergirl."
Kara sucked in a small breath of air sharply as Lena rubbed her arm soothingly, "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone."
"How did you know?"
"It's in your eyes Kara, you're eyes are beautiful."
