This story takes place during the season premier of the 8TH season of
Buffy. Sarah Michelle Gellar stated that when her contract expires at the
end of season 7 (which premieres in September), she will not return. The
rest of the cast's contracts expire at the end of the 8th season, so Joss
Whedon wants to continue the series even if the title character won't
return. Emma Caulfield (Anya) also said she won't return. Here's what I
think should happen. The first chapter basically tells what happened in
season 7.

Season 8 Premiere, "The Next One's Called"
Chapter 1 - Prologue
Last season on Buffy, Spike returned to Sunnydale as a vampire with a soul, much like Angel. Him and Buffy formed a relationship. Anya and Xander got back together in time. Dawn has become one of the Scoobies and isn't as protected as before. Willow returned to her magical ways like ins eason 5 where she doesn't use her powers too much. As she began to get over Tara, Tara's twin Kira came to become the love interest for Willow. Giles returned to Sunnydale temporarily at the end of the season with news that will begin to conclude the season. news about Faith!
In the final month, Sunnydale went to hell. In the first week of the month, Anya was murdered by Faith, who escaped the prison she was being held in and vowed revenge on the Scoobies in Sunnydale.
The next week, the Scoobies attended Anya's funeral. Faith has been hiding from the time she murdered Anya until the funeral. When they least expected it, Faith attacked as soon as Anya was buried. She and Buffy had a huge showdown. Buffy stabbed Faith and began to walk away, but with her last bit of strength, Faith grabbed a gun and shot the slayer in the heart, killing her instantly. As the 2 lye there dead, the other Scoobies weep over their loss.
Now we open the next season of Buffy, or will it now just be entitled "The Vampire Slayer"?
