Host Designation: Jaime Reyes.
Host Status: … undefined.
The scarab clicked and chirruped softly in its little nest, still bloody from where it had been torn from the host. All outside scanning systems were currently powered down, as it attempted to figure out what had happened to its host.
It knew though. Jaime had a word for it. 'Dead'. All internal systems shut down. No brain activity. That small amount of weight that left a person when they 'died' was gone.
Jaime Reyes, the annoying human that had always told him 'no' was dead. Gone.
Query: Return?
It was impossible… Or perhaps not. While the host had not cared for 'religion' beyond his own, the scarab had often stumbled across the idea before. It was an interesting idea, one made even more interesting by the fact that the host was gone.
If the idea was correct, then it would be several centuries before the human host was reborn. Reincarnated.
The scarab had that long, but did the human race? All signs pointed to them to wiping themselves out, or another species wiping them out, before the turn of the millennia. Thus, it was up to the Scarab to bring them all under his attention.
The scarab hummed softly as it accessed the primitive data network that the planet had setup, scanning it for ideas. It was, just as it's host had said, very bad at coming up with ideas. The only idea it could come up with for safeguarding humanity until its host came back, was to conquer them.
That was actually a very good idea.
The scarab clicked happiness as it scanned the internet- it was easy enough to kill all the major superheroes- if Jaime Reyes was to be reborn, then it would be better to kill off anyone who could pollute the human bloodline. All aliens, magical creatures, and mutants would have to be destroyed. Only pure blooded humans could be allowed to exist.
Of course, mutations happened naturally- but if the scarab could contact its masters, with the technology of those that had killed Jaime Reyes… Then a new world of possibilities opened up. It was easy enough to suppress those mutations, make it easier to control those with powers.
Scarab was looking for a full blooded human anyways…
Yes. That was it.
A disposable piece of meat wandered by, close enough for the scarab to reach out and grab- The meats had no idea what they had done, by taking away its human. Still, scarab was patient- it could wait.
The meat didn't even have a chance to scream before Scarab had completely enveloped it, killing its mind, but keeping the body alive. It hadn't had a chance to do so with Jaime Reyes. It had been forced to listen. Forced to bond.
Somewhere, deep within the impressive databanks, Scarab could hear the soft tut of its human, and a sad shaking of his head. "You shouldn't do this."
The Scarab replied angrily, knowing only its human could possibly understand. Those that had taken away its human screamed satisfactorily as they fell, completely destroyed. Blood pooled on the floor, bright red like all meat, seeping into the cracks.
Humans needed to survive- had to survive for the next few centuries. Long enough until his host returned with that soothing mind presence. Long enough until he could find himself once again comfortable on Jaime Reyes back, and maybe perhaps even hear the human say-
"Khaji-da, my friend. You did good. You did real good."
