Remember little red riding hood? Of course you do.
I've been thinking a lot about that story lately.
(i can't get it off my damn mind actually)
(sometimes it overwhelms me and I have to sit down and breathe! breathe! breathe! before my heart forgets how to work)
It's just such a familiar story to me.
...
Girl goes out one day.
Meets the big bad wolf.
(such gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous blonde hair)
Tells the wolf where she lives.
(what else was I supposed to do when she pretty much saved my life)
Leads the wolf to her home.
(she saved my life when she could've left me there to die)
The wolf replaces her grandmother.
(i miss her sometimes but not too much to want the blonde gone)
(good for you stupid girl now the blonde's gone too, now what)
...
I should probably try and give her a call. Couldn't hurt, could it?
(wrong. she won't be there. it'll hurt. it'll hurt hurt hurt you'll wish it left physical marks instead of heartache)
Maybe she'll come back. She has to.
(stupid stupid stupid little red riding hood)
(why'd you let the wolf in you stupid stupid stupid)
...
I'm going to go crazy.
Maybe I already am.
(what else can you be)
(what more can you be)
(stupid, crazy, red riding hood)
Is it so bizarre for me to miss the danger?
I liked it while it lasted.
(that's why you bring in wolves into your life you crazy crazy crazy girl)
(that's why you like things that are bad bad bad for you)
...
If beauty can fall in love with the beast, what's to stop little red riding hood from falling for the wolf?
(everything, stupid)
(everyone warned you)
(now it's three in the morning and you're talking to the voices in your head about a childhood story)
(you are a sad sad sad girl)
(yes I am)
I stare at the empty space that is her bed.
In the original, the wolf dies.
Sometimes the wolf runs. Chased away.
(yes, you clingy clingy clingy girl you chased her away)
(you knew she couldn't stay forever you stupid stupid stupid)
No version of the story ever talks about little red's life after the wolf runs.
(maybe there is no life)
...
Why couldn't she hurt me to my face instead of leaving without me looking?
(that way it hurts more)
(can't you see)
(she didn't love you)
I thought she cared about me.
(are you even listening anymore)
I miss her.
(you miss a lot of things that are bad bad bad for you)
...
I can't do this anymore.
(you were never capable)
(why'd you bring the wolf in)
The story is meaningless without the wolf.
Little little little red is meaningless without the wolf.
But I hope the wolf comes back.
(are you sure)
(hope is a sad sad sad thing)
I hope it comes back and sees how I'm doing without it.
(really really really bad)
I hope it feels sorry enough for me to eat me up whole.
Then I hope it'll realize that the big bad bad bad wolf is meaningless without little red too.
(are you sure)
. . .
Author's Note: Woke up from my nap today and a thought comes to my mind - Sam and Cat is basically the big bad wolf and little red riding hood, right? Everything just ties in perfectly. Especially the pilot. Here's me experimenting with a new writing style. Thanks for reading; expect some more red riding hood stories in the future.
