Prologue

"Sans?" a girl in stripes called out to her friend besides her.

"Hm?" a grinning skeleton hummed in response to her call.

"… Are you happy?" she asked him.

"…" Sans turned away from Frisk's gaze, staring at the exact cliff where all of his friends stood to bask in their new attained freedom.

The question took him off guard, not really sure on how he would answer the kid beside him. Will he gave her an honest answer or just a shrug would do it. He glance back at Frisk, she was still staring at him in anticipation. Gosh now he was pressured.

"I … I don't know what to tell you, kiddo" he answered her honestly, welp the least he could do was to tell her the honest truth. No turning back.

Instead of hearing her usual teasing gasps, she only hummed in agreement. Sans was a bit confused by this but didn't pushed through, instead he just observed her.

Again silenced engulfed the two, it wasn't uncomfortable as others may think but for them it would be like a meditation to comprehend what was really happening to the two.

"…"

"…"

"…Sans…" she called out again, Sans hummed.

"I'm sorry …" Sans stared at her, not catching on what the kid was saying. He scratched his head, thinking back on the things what she may have done wrong to the older skeleton but he didn't find any. Or he was just too lazy to think any of it.

"Why's that?" was instead his answer, he waited for Frisk to answer back but flinched when she moved in front of him. He was towering her, she was short for a child but that didn't stop her from saving them from the prison down below.

"You okay kid?" he asked concerned, is this what humans call puberty? But isn't Frisk like 10 years old? Maybe she has it early. He guessed.

Frisk was silent, she opened her eyes, much to Sans surprise and smiled at him. A childish smile spread across her face then she opened her arms wide and hugged Sans tenderly.

Stunned, Sans was still not understanding the odd behavior of the child. Opening her eyes was a shock enough but smiling happily and hugging him so suddenly was weirding him out. Hesitantly, he brought his arms to hug her back, she squeezed it harder as if she was afraid to let go.

"Hey, kid if something's bothering you, you can always tell me" he offered, his gut was telling him that something was indeed wrong. Frisk shook her head in his shoulders and relaxed, feeling the warm embrace of her best friend.

"Just let me hug you"

"…Okay"
