"It's…complicated," he says softly. Never explaining, never looking back, he turns from her lips.

As Jin watches him walk away, she wonders if it could ever be understood.

A day later, a glimpse of his scar was the last she saw of him.

It was also the last time she saw rain in Ba Sing Se.

---

Jin hasn't seen him in a long time. She wonders where he is.

She also wonders at the convenience that it was after her first kiss that he should disappear.

It has been two weeks since she has last seen him.

The hot desert sun dries her tears; it also burns her for the first time.

---

The fountain has been dry for three months. It is the second time of Jin's life that the lamps are out when she visits to make a wish come true.

No one is there to light them with secrets.

---

Inevitably, the Jade Dragon fell to pieces after Li and Mushi never returned, as first loves often do.

Four months since her first kiss, Jin meets another man. He loves her, almost.

The scars on his hands are rough against her face when he strikes her; they are childhood burns from holding a hot teapot.

The sky is dusted red by the sand and sadness left behind.

---

It falls down onto her face, a soft and gentle touch of sorrow slipping into an apology, a thousand whispers for forgiveness.

It is the first time in five long years that it has rained.

The moon shines from the sky, like a scarred amber eye after a first kiss.

Jin stands, facing the clouds with her eyes half-lidded and arms open wide.
