Most people don't see it, they don't see beyond the mask they all put on, the one that makes it look like everything's okay. And everything is okay to the outsider anyway, but the people on the inside, or as close as they can be without being in the little family, they see what has become of the once great team. They see that Ducky doesn't tell as many stories, and that Tony doesn't call McGee 'Probie' anymore, he has even stopped calling Jimmy Palmer 'Autopsy Gremlin'. They see that some days Gibbs comes into work late and with a headache, hands raw from sanding the boat. They see that Abby doesn't spin around in her chair when she gets the results from a test any more. They see that McGee stopped talking to people unless it is absolutely necessary. They even see how Kate's death effected Jimmy he now calls Dr. Mallard 'Ducky' and instead of 'Agent DiNozzo sir' it's just 'DiNozzo' once or twice its even 'Tony".
They see this change in all of them but they don't see or understand why, other agents have been lost. You just cry and move on. They don't see that Kate was a sister, a daughter, a best friend, and someone to lean on, someone to love. They don't see that sometimes the pain gets to be too much for all of them. They don't see that somehow they all know to go to Gibbs' house, never showing up more then 10 minutes apart. They don't feel Gibbs' slaps getting lighter. They don't know how many times the team has crashed at someone's apartment, while Ducky, manages to be the only sober one and puts blankets around everyone.
They may see the hole but they don't see the cracks that spread out from the whole as the team tries to glue back together what was left shattered, by a single shot.
A/N: Yes I know Twilight is a long time ago but… oh well.
