It was around one in the morning.
The birds were singing, the sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The breeze was soft, but strong enough to blow the scent of violets drifting through the air.
But there was something off. People could feel it, and were shivering, despite the sun shining down on them.
In the heavens a boy was pacing back and fourth over the cloud ground. There was to be a new arrival, and from what he'd heard.. she was a handful.
Back down on earth, a young girl, around the age of sixteen was muttering to herself. She was late for for school and was having to walk. With a heavy sigh, she flipped her hair out of her eyes and hurried along.
She was crossing the road, when a sudden gust of wind swept her hair into her eyes, causing her to miss the car speeding towards her.
Five seconds cost her her life.
The next minute she was on the floor. There was a strange feeling in her stomach and her head was pounding. There was panicked shouting.. but it all seemed so, so far away. The girl panicked as she realised what was happening.
She was taking gasping breaths and her chest felt like it was collapsing, she couldn't even feel her legs, and the world was fading.
Letting out a small sob, she let darkness take over.
Shelby was running. Really running, her breath was coming in gasps and her legs were weak. But she knew that it was really what happened, that was affecting her.
She hadn't known her properly, she never met Beth, and Shelby would never get the chance to let them all have a life.
Will wasn't in his office. Which saddened her even more, for it meant he was at Glee club, and she'd have to tell them all.
The first person she's seen was Sue. Shelby had blurted out the news, barely able to keep her tears in, as she heard the words leave her mouth.
Sue reacted the opposite to how you'd have thought she would have. She stood still for a moment, before taking Beth off of Shelby, giving the young woman a hug and dissapering into her office, wishing her good luck.
Shelby swore she saw tears in her eyes.
The choir room was packed.
Finn was glancing around nervously, Kurt was tapping his foot, Santana was practially tearing her hair out, and Puck was muttering to him self.
Will glanced up as Shelby walked in.
His smile was fake, she noted. "How ar-" Shelby cut him off and took a deep breath.
"I have some.. bad news," she said slowly. Kurt sat up straighter and gripped Blaine's hand. Santana glanced up.
"There's." she began. 'Oh god' she thought. "There's been an accident,"
Quinn raised an eyebrow, "What? Is man hands dying of a broken heart?" she mocked. Shelby shook her head and let the tears fall.
"R-rachel's.. dead." she whispered.
The reactions weren't pretty. Kurt collapsed sobbing, Blaine held Kurt whilst fighting back tears of his own. Santana stood up and walked away, choking on her sobs.
Quinn's expression turned from smug to horrified.
Finn looked like he was struggling to understand. Brittney hugged her unicorn close. "Mr Sparkles says she's fine." she whispered in a broken voice and Tina hugged her tightly.
Puck however, didn't respond. He just kept muttering. Shelby slowly walked over to him and sat down. "That's Rachel's seat." he stated. Shelby glanced down at her hands. He started muttering again.
"I lost my baby again," she sobbed, breaking. But for some reason, she didn't care. All that mattered, was Rachel. Puck wrapped an arm around her whilst still muttering.
Shelby's heart went out to the poor boy when she heard the words he was muttering: "Rachel is fine. Rachel will be here soon, Rachel is fine"
