It was a very cold day and tomorrow is the first day of December which also means the first day of advent. Susy couldn't wait til Christmas coming from a poor family Susy didn't get much except at Christmas and her birthday. Today on her way back from school she was stopped by a strange old man she had never seen before. The nine year old girl became slightly frightened. "Hello little girl." He spoke kind and gently. "I want you to have this." He handed her a brown package. She took it and looked at it curiously but when she looked back at the man he was gone. Susy inspected the package again then continued walking home. She ran in her house and shed her wet snowy clothes and ran into her bedroom. She closed the door and proceeded to rip open the box. It was a large wooden advent calender box. She opened all the little doors excitedly but they were empty. The girl became sad went back downstairs for dinner then went to bed. The next day she woke up got dressed and ate breakfast. Then she went back to her bedroom to think of what to do today. (were she went to school they had the whole month of December off.) She sat on her bed playing with her doll when the advent box caught her eye then it seemed to brighten. She dropped her doll and ran over to the box. She picked it up and stared at it real hard and opened a random door, it was still empty. She sat down frustrated then looked back at the box. She opened today's door and now inside of it there was a piece of paper. She closed the door then opened it again, It was still there. She pulled it out and unfolded it. It read 'congratulations! You are the new owner of the elf on the couch! This lazy bum does nothing! Enjoy!' She reread the note curiously then looked at the box there was a tiny couch with a chubby elf sitting on it. "Hello." He said in his funny squeaky voice. Susy gasped. "Where's the Tv?" He asked like he was annoyed. "Uh... w-w-we d-don't h-have one." She stammered. "What!?" He shouted in his high pitched voice. Susy had to keep from laughing. But then he started shouting and yelling. It sounded like mice in cartoons she'd seen at her friends house. soon she grew tired of his noise but she couldn't get him to shut up. She tried everything, finally it was time for bed when she came to her room after dinner he started up again. She tried hurrying her self under the covers and clamping her pillow to her ears but nothing would work. She lay there awake, she looked at her alarm clock "Ten til twelve." She said aloud hardly hearing herself. "Why haven't mom and dad come in? With all the noise he's making the whole neighborhood should be knocking down the door!" She shouted exasperated. Then the clock struck twelve and the room was silent. She looked over the foot of her bed at the floor. "He's gone!" She exclaimed shocked and relieved at the same time. Then she looked over at the mysterious advent box. "Weird..." she said out loud. Then she instantly fell asleep. This was day one.
