Sookie knew Eric would show up eventually. Going by Fangtasia had been a mistake. The problems with Alcide...she had made a mistake. After three years, she still couldn't forget Eric.

"Come away with me. I have a house in Barbados," Eric lifted an eyebrow. "You'll love there. Much nicer than Louisiana. I have a spa. In the house."

"Eric- the only reason I met you here tonight is to tell you I can't see you anymore." Sookie took a breath. "Coming by there- seeing you- talking to you- it was a mistake. I'm trying to work things out with Alcide."

"Why?"

Her breath caught. "Because of her."

He opened his mouth to argue and she laid a finger softly over his lips. "How much do you love Pam?"

He was caught off guard. But he thought about it for a long moment- how much he loved Pam, took care of her, protected her. How he taught her how to hunt and how to run a business. How to deal with humans and how to feed off humans. She was the best thing he had ever done.

"She's my progeny."

"And Mackenzie is my daughter. I owe it to her to work things out with Alcide, not cheat on him with you and run off."

"She would love Barbados."

"I can't go," she smiled sadly. "She needs him. I need him. She's three. She can hear people's thoughts. I want to do better by her than what was done to me. You know what it's like to have a daughter. Everything I have- everything inside of me- everything I do- is for her. Forever."

He knew exactly what she was saying. That's why he put up no argument when she walked away.
