John Munch was in a good mood. The Stabler's Halloween party was not his typical Saturday afternoon affair, but he figured good friends, good food, and lots of beer was as good a reason as any to celebrate. In fact, John was in such a good mood he decided to help a good friend out some.

Olivia Benson sat in the back yard deep in conversation with Alex Cabot. As of late, the two women were inseparable. Sure, they were co-workers, but there was something else between the two that John could not help but notice. After being married so many times, John had become astutely aware of the subtleness of women.

He watched as Alex erupted in laughter and lightly grabbed Olivia's arm. Olivia smiled broadly as she leaned into Alex. John saw a spark between the two women, long before today's festivities. He saw the quick glances, the intense arguments, and the genuine concern for the other woman. He often wondered if the two women even noticed the looks of longing or the random touches bestowed upon one another; surely they had to know each had feelings for the other. As long as John had known Olivia, she had never made such an effort to make another person laugh. He had never seen Olivia Benson's face light up for anyone but Alex Cabot. So today, John decided was his chance to bring the two compassionate albeit naïve hearts together.

John sauntered over to a table of older women and plopped down mournfully. He sighed heavily before taking a long swig of beer. The older of the two women at the table patted his shoulder asking, "Are you alright dear?"

John smiled half-heartedly and pointed to Olivia. "You see that magnificent woman over there?" "I am hopelessly in love with her but she has absolutely no idea."

The two women glanced at Olivia then turned back to John, one woman said, "Why don't you tell her?"

John sighed, "Olivia Benson has a strict policy. She does not date people she works with and I just happen to be one of those people."

The women listened intently as John told them how his heart ached for Olivia and how he truly believed that, she was his soul mate. Content that he had baited the two women successfully, he gave his best puppy dog expression and whispered, "Thank you for letting me bear my soul."

As he turned to leave one woman grabbed his hand, asking, "What's your name? "

John let out a small cackle before answering, "Alex Cabot."

John slowly walked to Olivia and Alex, careful to look back at the women sitting at the table. He pulled Olivia into a fierce hug before cupping her cheek, shaking his head and walking away.

Alex shook her head and replied simply, "Sometimes I just don't get that man."

Just then, an older woman stormed over to Alex and Olivia, grabbing Olivia by the upper arm and yelling, "Excuse me, Miss Benson, but can't you see Alex loves you? Open you eyes woman, Alex Cabot is in love with you!"

The exasperated woman huffed away leaving a shocked Olivia to stare at a beet red Alex.
