"Gilbert? I need your help. Gilbert?" Ludwig tugged on his big brother's arm trying to wake him. He had been so depressed lately after Ludwig proved to him that he wasn't invincible and ended up breaking his arm on accident.
"Leave me be. I want to be alone." Gilbert shrugged Ludwig's arm away and turned over on to his other side so as not to see his brother's face.
"Gilbert, please. I need your help." Ludwig blushed and knew what he had to do to get his brother's attention.
"What is it." Ludwig winced at how unhappy Gilbert's voice sounded.
"There's a big dog that scared me. C-can you protect me from it?" It was a stupid excuse to get his brother out of bed, but he figured he might as well try it. Nothing else he did seemed to work and Ludwig was missing the old Gilbert.
"You aren't scared of any dogs. Go away." Gilbert growled and Ludwig tried to act big and strong, but he couldn't help the tears that started to flow. His big brother was such a meanie sometimes!
"Stupid Gilbert!" He shouted and ran off to go hide under their stairway.
Ludwig sat under the stairway trying to stop crying. His brother was a big meanie face and he never listened and he was always so cocky and... and... and he was his big brother and he was supposed to protect him even if he wasn't afraid of the big doggy!
"Ludwig? Are you under there?" Ludwig could hear his brother's voice from the above the stairway.
"No." He replied grumpily trying to not be upset.
"I'm sorry. You hear me?" Ludwig nodded but didn't say anything. He didn't want to say anything anymore.
"I want my old big brother back." He said quietly but somehow Gilbert still heard him.
"What of him do you want back?" Gilbert said just as quietly and Ludwig had to strain his ears to hear it.
"I want how he would protect me from doggies even if I weren't afraid of them. I want how he was always happy and would never make me cry. I want all of him back! This new Gilbert is mean and I don't like him!" Ludwig cried from under the stairway. He could hear Gilbert walking down it and he didn't need to look up to know that Gilbert was standing in front of him.
"You want me to protect you from the dog?" Ludwig laughed.
"I'm not afraid of the dog!" He looked up to see his brother smiling.
"I know that. You wanna go pet the doggy?" He shook his head and Gilbert sat next to him.
"How about we go lay down for a little while? Take a nice long nap and when you wake up your old Gilbert will be right there laying next to you. How's that sound?" Ludwig smiled and hugged his brother.
"Okay..." They both headed back to their bedroom and cuddled next to each other trying to fall asleep.
"You promise old Gilbert will be back?" Ludwig questioned when he was almost asleep. He wanted to make sure.
"Cross my heart and hope to die-"
"Stick a needle in my eye." Ludwig finished for him and fell asleep.
About and hour later...
"Ludwig wake up! Time for dinner!" Gilbert smacked Ludwig's head and Ludwig smacked him right back.
"I am up! Stupid Gilbert!" He pouted and Gilbert just smiled.
"You mean the awesome Gilbert." Ludwig just glared.
"Well, I'm back." That earned Gilbert a questioning glare before Ludwig remembered what had happened and just smiled.
"Get up. We's gonna have's somes foods tonight~"
