Disclaimer: I do not own Digimon

He was the air and she was fire, they should have known it would not last. He would suffocate her and she would cloud his vision. They should have known that fire and air where a dangerous combination and that together they would ruin themselves and anyone that got caught in the crossfire.

She even knew that she was not in love with him and she knew he was not in love with her either. He wanted to love her but he didn't, not like that anyway. She didn't even want to love him in a romantic way, she was quite happy just being friends with him.

She was almost positive he knew she didn't love him and she knew that he was fully aware that he didn't love her. He may have been fully aware that he did not love her but his need to love her was so strong that he ignored the fact that he didn't love her and pretended to love her instead.

They had only started this charade in the first place because their friends had thought that they would make the perfect couple, they had mentioned this on many occasions. They had even started to see something going on between the two, something that truthfully was not going on at all. Since the majority of their friends seem to think that they would make a good coupe they had decided to give it a shot.

I mean statistically speaking they should have been perfect together. They had a lot in common and they had been best friends for a very long time. Just goes to show that statistics have no sway in matters of the heart. Maybe she should have told her friends and everyone at school that they were just friends and that was how it was going to stay. At that point it wouldn't have hurt his feelings but now it was a different story.

He had fallen in love with the idea of loving her as pathetic as that sounds that is what happened. He couldn't even see clearly anymore how much they were hurting each other. At first they had a lot of arguments and it seemed that they would never cease. Not that their friends or anyone else ever knew that they were fighting. They kept the fighting to themselves hoping to keep up the image of being the perfect couple and apparently they somehow pulled it off.

She soon grew tired of the fights and wanted nothing more than for them to stop. She knew if she just became who he wanted her to be he would back off and leave her alone. So she stopped being herself and did everything in her power to keep them from getting into an argument. She never mentioned when he did something that she didn't like or when he neglected her. She stopped talking to pretty much everyone unless it was to put on a fake smile and make everyone think that they were still the perfect couple.

She began to forget who she really was and that started to scare her but who could she talk to about this? Certainly not him, he was so caught up in their fake relationship that he couldn't seem what was really happening. She hadn't even noticed the full effect of their relationship on the people around them but then again no one really did. Out of all of their friends only three suspected that something was not quite right.

Two of them were worried that maybe it only seemed that way because they were younger than the rest and they weren't old enough to understand. The third friend knew in his gut that something was wrong and he could see that she was losing herself. He started to worry as each day passed and she lost herself little by little. One day he couldn't take watching her wither away into nothingness anymore so he vowed that somehow, some way he was going to help her remember who she really was.
