Forever, You

Let me fall into grace land;
Let me see your pretty face.
I know that forever is too far away
And that you only have today.
Walk the road called My Life
And meet me at the end.

"How long is forever, my Lord," little Rin asked while plucking pink petals off her newest selection of wildflowers.

She didn't expect an immediate answer. But she still choose to ask. After all, her Lord Sesshoumaru had ALL the answers. And who wouldn't think the same as she?

"It is a symbol of honor and wisdom," her mother would often say, "to have one's hair turn from black to ash to moonlight grey."

She once asked her Lord if his hair was always the color of moonlight. He eventually responded with a simple yes. It was only one more reason to love her Sesshoumaru-sama.

He was strong, he was powerful, he was moonlight, he was forever, and he was her Sesshoumaru-sama.

Though Rin was young, she accepted that she would not live forever with her Lord. After all, she was mortal, and he was not. But he would always be, be her Lord, be her protector, be her strength, be her forever.

Since Sesshoumaru-sama was forever, in a way, she would be too, because she knew he was honorable and he was wise and he would always remember her.

"Forever," he softly responded, "is that which remains after everything else is gone."

The battle was brutal. Hundreds of youkai corpses lay mangled and bloody on the red-soaked ground. It was the last standing army of youkai against a whole holy host of spiritual warriors.

Though hopeless, the Lord of the Western Lands continued to fight. He no longer had his loyal servant. Ah-Un died long ago protecting Rin.

And Rin, Rin was no more. He watched her grow from doe-eyed child to womanly elegance, from raven hair to simple ashes.

Yet, here, alone, another of the fallen, a lord with no lands, after everything else was gone; all he could see was the face of morning and hear the child-like laughers of hope.

His Rin was forever; and, in a way, he now was too.
