"Keep Me Awake"

She awoke suddenly, yet quietly. Unlike others, Victorique would awake from an unwanted nightmares in a soundless fashion, no sound escaping from her dainty lips.

Kujō knew she was awake, and aroused himself from his much-needed sleep. "Are...are you okay...?"

His small sliver-haired bride let out the smallest sigh of relief as she heard her husband's reassuring voice. "K-Kujō, I..."

Warm arms wrapped around her slim frame and hugged her tightly. "Was it the kids? Or something else...?"

Victorique's mimd drifted over to her two children, both fast asleep. One in his bed, the other in her crib, dreaming of sweet spring dandelions and sugary macaroons. The thought of their tiny helpless faces made her break out into sweat. "What if...we can't protect them..."

"That's silly to think of." He stated, placing his hand over her's. "Our children are the strongest of any kids. Plus, they have us as their Mama and Papa."

"I just can't shake the feeling, I suppose..." Victorique said rather nervously, "I have these dreams...about our children being forced away from us...I don't want that to happen."

"It may happen..." Kujō said, "But like we found each other after the war, I'm sure they'll find us as well too. As that man from the Gray Wolf village said so long ago, we may be apart but our heart will never truly be!"

"That was for us only though..." Victorique closed her eyes and the image of the dream reappeared to her. There was fire everywhere, and it covered almost everything in view. Roaring sounds of swoops and dives filled the air, striking fear into the hearts of her children, who stood helplessly in the engulfed world, about to meet death. Screams and moans of dying men, women and children would occasionally be heard, but the roar of the fire and the swoosh of metal constantly drowned them out, leaving no one able to hear their dying pleas. "My nightmare always shows the children much older...But..."

"Hey, calm down..." Her husband replied, not wanting to see her in anymore pain. "It'll be alright...you gave them our heirlooms right? The two necklaces...As long as they have those, we will always be there to save them, no matter what.

Victorique clutched the pendant her love had given her with her free hand, instantly comforted by the metal chain tied around her neck. Never had she taken it off. "Yes...I gave them their heirlooms the day they were born...that way, if they ever stray, we will undoubtably find them..."

"Of course!" Kujō replied, smiling at his wife lovingly. "Now, let's sleep, I'm tired..."

"...I'd rather not..." Victorique whispered, her brain going back to the nightmare she just had. "I'd rather...stay awake, just a bit longer...Maybe I'll read a book or something, to make sure I don't get bored."

Holding hands, the two lovers enjoyed one another's company, bright smiles that outshined the dark of night. Victorique read while Kujo peered out from behind her quaint shoulder, the two reading together yet not allowed. The Charming Monster and her Rabbit. The Ring and Locket.

Always together, even when they are not physically near. Their hearts beat as one, and they always would for the decades to come.
