Author's note: I wanted to write something earlier but didn't have any inspiration until now. Hopefully I'll get back into the flow of things soon. In the mean time enjoy this. Also the second generation is absolutely a reference to the Pentagram series.
Matt hid in the library whenever he needed to be away from the others. Nobody really came there anyway. That's why Matt was taken back when he saw young latino boy reading a book out loud.
Matt sat down in front of the kid. "Sup, I'm Matt." Matt would be lying if he said he knew anything about little kids.
The other boy put down his book. " I'm Glenn." Glenn continued reading.
"So …. What are you doing here?", Matt asked.
Glenn raised an eyebrow. " I'm reading."
Matt sighed. " Yeah, I can see that. I meant how did you get here?"
" I fell asleep. I've been visiting this place since I was little."
"You're still little." Matt stated blankly.
Glenn shrugged. "True. Now why are you here."
Matt didn't even bother coming up with some contrived bullshit. " I'm part of a team called the five and this is the dream-" Glenn cut Matt off.
"Wait , you're a gatekeeper?! So am I!" Glenn grinned widely.
" So there's more than two generations of gatekeepers?" Matt thought his team was the last. That stupid book didn't prepare him for this.
Glenn nodded. " So far seven if that Nexus lady was right. So you're either the first Matt or Matt Freeman."
"Freeman."
Glenn tilted his head. "Then why did you think there was only two generations? According to this book there was one before yours. "
Matt would've been shocked by this discovery if he hadn't just found out there were seven generations of gatekeepers. " Who's that book about?"
"Some guy named Martin."
" Let me see it." Matt held his hand out.
"Hold on, I have to fini-" Glenn disappeared, presumably because he woke up.
Matt picked the book up and flipped to the first page.
