Losing Substance

By: Albinofrog

The piercing, agonizing pain left her, and she felt herself dissolve.

The darkness, the nothingness, alarmed, if not frightened, her.

She shivered, not from cold, but from not knowing.

Wasn't the diadem supposed to prevent that?

Wasn't it infinite knowledge it would bring if it crowned her head?

Or was it another lie her mother told, to make herself even more remarkable for creating such a thing?

As she raised her hands to see if it was still there, she remembered she did not have it anymore.

She had hid it.

How could she have forgotten?

But then she also recalled the dagger wounds and thought, am I dead? Would that be the reason I forgot?

Because memories faded at death, her mother had always told her.

She didn't want to be dead. She couldn't be dead.

It must have been a nightmare, or maybe she was unconscious.

She would wake up any minute, alive and happy.

'If that is your wish, so shall it be.'

And her eyes fluttered open.
