A young woman stood in the darkened room with a wand at her side. Her body was covered in wet clothes and her hair was a mass of damp, long brown curls. A shiver went over her body as the curtain of the veil blew in front of her. With the side of her, she tried to wipe away the tears that poured from her eyes but was unsuccessful because her skin was also wet.
Frustration could easily be seen on her face and she spoke, "You asked me to stay with him and help him win this war."
The long scar on her cheek had still not healed but it was no longer bleeding as it had been in the last three hours since she left the battlefield. Hermione glanced down at the wand in her hand and threw it to the ground as she continued to talk to the blowing piece of fabric. "I did as you asked. We won. It's over. But he's dead. They're all dead. Harry, Dumbledore died last Spring, Remus died saving Tonks, and Ron died trying to save Harry. All dead but me."
Her spirit broke as the truth sunk in. The heaviness of her body and the weight of the truth was too much for her knees in front of the veil that took Sirius out of her life. Hermione cried loud with her fists clutched at her sides. "Gods, Sirius I miss you. I need you. I can't live any more without you. I know you told me to be strong but damn it I am not THIS strong."
She bent forward and pounded her fists to the ground as the tears continued to pour as she started to whimper, "I'm not that strong. Not without you. Not without you."
The strong wind that was moving the curtain whipped around her as if it was holding her. Her loud sobbs became silent after a few moments of being caressed by the breeze. Her wet curls parted at her eyes and she moved her head up to look straight into the nothingness of the veil. The tears had stopped but the lines remained. Hermione got to feet shakily as she took a step closer to the flapping veil.
"I need you, Sirius. I love you," she whispered as if he could hear her. Part of her mind told that that he could hear her and he was there waiting for her. Her hands unsteadily went to the back of her neck and unclasped the golden locket Sirius had given her the Christmas before he left her life. With a smile, she rubbed the two hearts that were etched into the top of the locket. Their love was something that was not planned and to most would've been considered wrong. But it was true and pure and would never end.
In those few months that they had the summer of her fifth year, he became home to her and her for him.
"I'm coming home, Sirius," she whispered as she held tightly to the locket and took the few short steps in between herself and the veil. Her eyes closed as she fell into it. She was finally going home, home to her Sirius.
The End
