A/N: Hi you guys! this is my first fanfiction so bear with me! tell me what you think!

There in a window of a newly purchased house of the Cross household, a girl with soft, shoulder length brown and bright green eyes stood over looking her new street. She sighed and tossed her hair behind her ears. Shay Cross was your average 18 year old girl. Her major interests were preforming arts and music. She was of average height, about 5'5. The only thing that separated her from the other girls at her new school was that she wasn't completely obsessed with boys. She had noticed, while at the mall, the girls would be talking but as soon as a boy walked past they would stop and stare, then judge him. Shay wasn't like that at all. She was so much quieter than anyone she knew.

"Shay! Come on! We are going to be late!" a shrill voice yelled up at her. She winced as her older sister's voice pierced her ear drums. Shay used to lead a great life, back in sunny L.A. That was when her mother's career hadn't taken off yet. Her mother was an aspiring producer and her father, who lived in New York, was a Broadway director. Her parents were divorced when she was 10, and her older sister was 17. Now her sister was 25 and she worked as a real estate worker. Her mother had been discovered and decided it was best for Shay to come live with her "already settled down sister", as her mother put it.

Shay shook herself back into reality and ran downstairs and grabbed a piece of toast, which she hastily shoved into her mouth as she climbed into the car.

"Now, Mondays and Fridays are the only days were I can drop you off or pick you up, okay. Other than that, you'll have to find your own way to school," my sister distractedly said while trying to reply to an email that had popped on the screen of her shiny new iPhone.

*Shay's POV*

"Okay, I can just walk to school those days," I said smiling assuredly at my sister. She returned a weary smile back at me.

Once we pulled up to the school, I gave her a hug and jumped out of the car. I took a deep, calming breath and walked to the main office. The secretary looked over at me and smiled warmly at me.

"Hello! And what's your name, grade, and student ID number?" asked the middle-aged woman.

"Shay Cross, 12th grade, and umm, give me a moment," I replied, rummaging through my bag. After going through it for a more seconds, I produced my information packet. The lady gave me a forgiving smile and I promptly turned bright red for disorganization. She handed me my schedule and a map. I scanned it uncertainly before turning around. I gasped when I bumped into an angry teacher pulling a tall, gangly teenaged boy by the ear.

"Owwwww! Let go you crazy hypocrite! I wasn't doing anything wrong! I was just sitting there!" He yelped, trying to shake himself free. The teacher shoved him roughly into a chair. The secretary sighed and shook her head.

"What did he do this time?" she asked as she pulled up his page. "Shay…. May I see your schedule for a second?" She added. I handed it to her wordlessly, analyzing the boy in front of me. He was really good looking in an unapproachable sort of way.

"Ms. Cross, I have an alternative to your map. Roderick Heffley will be your guide until you know your way, as he has all the same classes as you," she told me.

"What? Why? It's not even the first day yet and my rep's gonna be ruined!" he cried standing straight up. I tried not let my stung feelings show. This was going to be an unforgettable first day…
