Sorry if this is awful but I was watching when love came to town and thought Ruth and Abs would make a cute couple. I couldn't find any fics with the ship, so decided to write one….XD

Ruth Winters sat cross-legged in the Holby City's children ward, staring bleakly at the grubby white wall in front of her. Somehow Maggie had managed to rope her into helping re-paint the ward. She had thought it would be a great opportunity to bond with her fellow colleagues and so had agreed, unfortunately she had forgotten about one tiny little factor – she hated kids.

Opposite her, three children were laughing hysterically while painting each other red. And it was really beginning to grate on her.

"Ruth?" Looking over at the door Ruth found Abs beaming at her, "I didn't think you'd come."

"Yeah well, Maggie asked." She murmured sending the kids a death glare.

"I know, I suggested it to her." For a moment Ruth didn't know wheather she wanted to hit him or act surprised so undecided she made no reaction.

"Oh." She went back to staring at the wall, waiting to hear the sound of him leaving.

"You do know you have to actually pick up the brush to paint? – it won't change colour, no matter how hard you stare at it otherwise."

Abs let out a little chuckle and Ruth bit back a harsh retort, telling herself he was just trying to help. To her surprise she suddenly felt a hand in her own and looked down to find Abs hand pulling her own upwards.

"Come on, we'll do it together." He lifted her to her feet and handed her a brush.

Twelve minutes later Ruth looked down at her self to find she was green. Abs had one arm locked round her waist and the other holding his paint soaked brush a few centimetres from her face. She let out a little shriek and pushed his arm, ending up with Abs accidentally smearing his own face green.

She sniggered and dodged his next swipe at her.

"Hey, that's cheating!" Abs yelled.

"What dodging?"

Abs harrumphed, "You know what I mean. I'll get you back for that."

"Really?" Ruth raised an unbelieving eyebrow.

Suddenly Abs stopped waving his brush around and glanced at the wall they were meant to be painting and then back at her. "We've got more paint on you than on the wall."

Ruth nodded and the looked wall behind her. The three kids had left leaving a perfect block of red paint in their wake. Sighing she flopped down onto the floor and looked up at Abs soberly.

"Red and green clash anyway."

Abs just smiled at her, then carefully placing his paint brush down at his feet and walked over and crouched in front of her.

With out hesitation and lifted his hands pulling her face closer and kissed her.

Ruth was stunned and it took a moment for her register that this was what she wanted and that this was in fact as close to bliss as she was probably going to get. So she kissed back.

Maggie, who had gone in search of Ruth after the three children she was suppose to be supervising, had turned up in the canteen eating blueberry muffins, pushed open the door gently.

The sight that greeted her made a grin break onto her face.

Abs, who had managed to reposition Ruth against the wet red wall, was surreptitiously making a very good job of turning her back red while still kissing her feverishly.

Maggie quietly slipped out the room, although not before snapping a few shots of them on her camera.

She was halfway through Abs front door before Ruth realised while her front half was a pleasing moss green, her back was a vibrant red. She sent her colleague a sharp glare, who was leaning against the door frame doubled over with laughter.

"Told you I get you back."

"No fair, I was distracted." Ruth said primly.

Abs grin widened, "Looks like you need a bath…."
