This Love (Will be Your Downfall)

Who are you to make me feel so good?

Who are we to tell ourselves that we're misunderstood?

Oh, how am I to say I'm always yours?

Who am I to choose the boy that everyone adores?

He can't help but laugh when he realizes what the kids from 12 are doing.

star crossed lovers

The Capitol idiots are eating it up. 'how tragic!' the woman Snow has whored him out to tonight says. 'they're so in love, oh just look at them!'

but they're not. The boy, maybe. but not the girl. He doesn't blame people for falling for it, though. He thinks they can't possibly know because people in the capitol know nothing about real love. They know nothing about real, period.

He knows.

He has his own star crossed lover.

He hates thinking about Annie when he's here, but he can't stop himself from comparing the tributes from 12 to he and Annie's own tragic love story.

He thinks about Annie's reaping day (He didn't know her yet then, not really)

He thinks about the weeks of training and the day she went into the arena (He didn't sleep during the entire games. He didn't know why)

He thinks about the months after, about her victory tour. (she was creeping up on him)

He thinks about now. Annie is in 4, and he's here. Again. (They're in love. But they're not supposed to be. So once a month and sometimes more he pretends he's not, he pretends he's Finnick O'Dair again. Annie never calls him Finnick anymore. He prefers just Finn these days)

It may not be real for the kids from 12 (yet) but it still makes him angry that they're using the star crossed lovers angle. The games are intertwined with his and Annie's love, and there's nothing glamorous about it.

They're doing everything they can to survive, he gets that. God knows he's done questionable things in the name of surviving. But it reminds him and he has to get through these games and these nights and being reminded isn't going to help with that.

When he gets back to 4 after the games, after the girl on fire single-handedly fucked up everything the games stood for, he's sitting on the beach with Annie in his arms (finally)

'they reminded me of us' she says in a whisper, and for some reason it bothers him, even though he spent the entire games thinking the same thing.

'we're real. They just wanted sponsors'

She smiles at that, because he's not quite Finn yet. Finnick is so much more…abrasive than Finn.

'oh, I think they were real, in the end'. She stops there and she's staring into the sea and sometimes the sea takes her away.

He doesn't want her to go.
