Chapter 1.

As the crowd of kids and young adults came to and fro from the scarlet and black train, one young bushy dirty brown hair girl smiled at her parents.

"I love you, mum and dad," she said, hugging them.

"We love you too. Don't forget to write us within a couple of weeks of your classes. We would like to know what is going on, as it is the new law now," her mother huffed at this.

The smile slid from her face and whispered "I know, but it's just the way things are and I am sorry,"

"Don't worry. Just keep your grades up and out of trouble, Hermione. Besides, maybe this year will be different?" her dad said next, always looking on the brighter side of every situation.

"Maybe, but I have to go now. I'll owl in two weeks. Love you!" she said and pulled her luggage onto the train.

Her parents were hurried out of the magical world by a wizard dressed in all black robes. Hermione's heart ached at this because, just last year, it wasn't the case.

Hermione Granger was what people called: Muggleborn.

She honestly didn't think that she came from a squib on how she got her magic. It just seemed really out there to accept that. Now, if the magic was there in a squib and he or she had children and their children had children, she could easily accept that. But, to accept that her magic was solely from a squib? No.

As of last year, the ministry of magic had its voting day and even though Minister Fudge was an OK Minister, he sorely lost to the up-and-coming, young Tom Riddle.

Hermione remembered how, her best friend Harry Potter, had owled her some inside information. Information on what his mother had overheard within the ministry itself. She also got from Harry, the rules on what was allowed and what wasn't allowed for her. And mind you, this was long before Tom Riddle was the actual minister.

It went from free blood status to barred stricter rules on blood status. Meaning, the rich purebloods flourished with the rules and the muggleborns suffered the worst from it.

There were protests. A lot of protests before the vote and well after the vote.

Those who protested the loudest suddenly disappeared. No one knew what had happened to the person and many feared the worst. In the Wizarding society, everything had changed so fast that people were leaving the UK all together. So, that is why a lot of families were migrating out of the UK.

It was putting a lot of pressure onto other countries like Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America, South America, Mexico, Japan and China. The reason why no one was going into France, Italy, or any other country like that is because they feared that those countries will catch onto to what Britain is doing.

Hermione's parents had once considered moving as well. They didn't agree with the unfairness of this new snobby minister of magic and judging people based on their blood status. It was wrong and absurd!

But, Minister Riddle didn't care. He stuck with his laws and ignored those who suffered the most from them.

She heavily sighed and walked down the train where it was now labeled: Purebloods at the front of the train, Half-bloods middle of the train and Muggleborns at the rear of the train.

The rules that Hermione memorized by heart, by now, was that Purebloods did not socialize with muggleborns at all. They ignored them completely and if they had to speak with them, it was about something bad that they had done. Half-bloods could sit with Muggleborns, if they wanted to, but couldn't help or defend the muggleborn witch or wizard if they were getting the proper "lesson from the pureblooded witch or wizard".

Hermione seethed that whole summer on this.

This wasn't the magical world that she grew up within and loved so dearly. It wasn't her magical world anymore.

Her eyes looked down most of the whole train until she found where Harry was at.

"Hey, do you mind-?"

"Come in. I don't give a damn what Riddle thinks," he cut her off, lividly.

She smiled and walked into the compartment and put her luggage on the wrack above.

"I take it you're going to go, after this year, to be Minister of Magic?" she asked him, after closing the door.

"Yes. To put some right back into our world," he growled out.

"I hope, that you don't Harry," she softly told him, sitting across from him.

"Why?" he asked her back.

"Because, I don't want you to be dead if you do win," she said simply.

"I won't die, Hermione. And if I do, just know that I was trying to right what is wrong," he replied back.

"I hope you're right," was all she said on it.

Maybe it would solve the reason why the pureblood families were dwindling so much?

'Who am I kidding? I know the real reason why they are dwindling so much!' she snapped at herself and pulled out her "new" book of "The High archery of society for all muggleborns".

Harry snatched it from her hands with her protesting "Harry!"

"No. I'm sorry, Hermione, but please, don't read this in front of me, it insults just how intelligent you truly are," He growled back.

She was silent for a bit and then nodded with "Alright. I won't read it, but I hope what you told me of the rules…"

"I'll always stick up for you. The only thing that I worry about is Ron. You know how vocal he is," Harry replied, grinning.

Hermione took her book and put it back into her luggage and said "I'm guessing he'll have a lot of detentions this year,"

"I'll try to keep him out of trouble," Harry ventured to do that.

"If the laws that were so swiftly put in place on the tail end of other laws passed this summer, then I would be with you, Harry. Now…I can't ever be friends with him," she sadly told him "And that is truly sad,"

"It is. His family is moving to Australia, after Ron graduates this year," Harry finally told her the major bombshell.

Her mouth fell open in utter shock, as hot tears swelled up in her eyes and said "I…will miss them terribly,"

Harry stood up and walked over to her; he sat down and then took her into his arms. He hugged her tightly as everything finally got to his only muggleborn true friend.

Hermione's shoulders shook and cried silently into Harry. She could no longer be friends with a lot of pureblood friends or families because of these new laws.

Ron helped her out in the beginning of their school year of year 1. Sure, she may have been trapped in the girl's bathroom with a troll, but he did save her life after telling him to "Swish and flick". Now, she has to say goodbye to that friendship. And nearly a decade of being friends, it's not easy, for her, to just suddenly give the cold shoulder.

What neither one saw was, a blonde hair grey eyed pureblood looking at them both. He stared at the shaking shoulders of Hermione and the worried crunched up eyebrows of Potter. He soon then walked by their compartment swiftly.

The blonde hair, grey eyed pureblood boy was named Draco Malfoy.

The wealthiest of all purebloods and having the two most oldest bloodlines running through his veins. The Ancient and noble house of Black's and the Malfoy's.

So how come that moment between Potter and that mudblood, Granger was getting to him so badly? It couldn't be because he had listened in on them? Had seen her break down because of what the new minister of magic had finally done for the purebloods of their world?

Shaking his head to rid these thoughts, Draco walked over to his friends.

The body of Ronald Weasley was on the ground as he was in a full body charm. It was the only way to shut his stupid foul mouth up.

Blaise Zabini handed Draco the latest Daily Prophet and sneered at the front cover.

"There is an Order of the Phoenix now? Announcing that they will 'right what is wrong'? Are they that thick?" Draco snarled at the article.

Blaise shrugged his shoulders and said "You know that the newest Minister always had a little bit of trouble with that of our headmaster, Draco,"

It was true. The truest in the most dangerous form.

Tom Riddle was a student at Hogwarts. Professor Dumbledore was at the time, the Transfiguration professor. Now, Professor Dumbledore is the headmaster of Hogwarts.

But, Professor Dumbledore always had an eye on young Mister Riddle. Always appearing to where the trouble was at with that of Mister Riddle. Tom hated how the professor would do this.

Now, years later, Tom was the Minister of Magic and didn't take any advice from no one, including his old professor.

"Ready for this year, Draco?" a girl with straight black hair, square-ish facial features and clear blue eyes.

"Of course, Pansy, who isn't it?" another boy chimed in, smiling.

"I didn't ask you, Theodora," Pansy sneered at him.

"Thank you, I didn't realize that I am now a pug faced girl, like you," he retorted, rolling his eyes.

Pansy pulled out her wand and flicked it about. Theodore suddenly got the hives and then smiled at him.

"Excuse me," he said, hurrying off to the nearest bathroom.

"Real mature you two," Draco drawled, ignoring them both now.

They all quieted down and waited until the train started to move.

Slowly, the train pulled out of the train station and headed back to Hogwarts for the school year.

**~~!~~**

The Hogwarts scarlet and black train slowly pulled into Hogsmeade and came to an exhausted stop as steam bellowed up into the cool night air.

Harry lead Hermione off of the train as then there was something up ahead.

"What is going on?" Hermione asked him curiously.

"I don't know, but stay back here," he replied, pushing Hermione back onto the train.

Hermione soon saw that everyone started to get into fights. Spells and jinxes were flying around.

"Hey! Hey!" they heard the booming voice of their half giant friend, Hagrid yelled out.

"Stop this!" they heard a young bright blonde hair girl screamed out.

Hermione pulled her onto the train and out of harms ways when a spell landed close to where her feet were.

"Thank you, but why are they doing this?" the little unsorted girl asked Hermione.

"I think because people got pushed from the carriages, up ahead and they couldn't take it anymore," Hermione replied to the little girl.

"That's…stupid in a way," the little girl said, looking at Harry who had his wand out but, didn't use it yet.

Someone else came onto the train and looked at Harry and Hermione with the little girl.

"Neville," Harry greeted him.

"Hi," he said to them all.

Hermione and the little girl didn't say anything, even though they wished too.

"Stay here, I don't think you will get in trouble if you do," Harry offered to him.

Neville nodded and leaned against a compartment mumbling "I wish this wasn't what I had to come back to. That these laws are what tearing everyone a part. That our friendships of years suddenly come to an end. It's not right,"

"I know, Neville. We all wish that they didn't get passed either," Harry spoke for Hermione.

Hermione walked over to Neville and gave him a hug. He hugged her back tightly.

"Our friendship will outlast this," she barely uttered.

Neville nodded and then let her go.

Pretty soon, blue and purple spells were being shot at all of the students that were out there fighting with one another.

"I have never been so embarrassed to witness this!" a seething strict woman's voice greeted the three on the train.

"Professor, there are four people on the train," Hagrid greeted her.

"Go and get them, Hagrid. I will want to speak with them at once. Only they have had the most common sense to not get this disaster!" the strict woman huffed and then walked away towards the castle.

Hagrid nodded and walked over to where Harry and they came off of the train, again.

"Harry! Neville! Hermione!" he exclaimed, smiling.

"Hello Hagrid," they all said, smiling back.

The gathered group of professors walked over to where Harry, Neville and Hermione were at.

"Explain how this all happened," the strict witch professor demanded.

"We were getting off of the train when we saw the mass of people start to fight physically and then it went to their wands first and it trickled from up near the carriages," Neville explained first. "I got caught up in it and pushed backwards until I had to get my wand to deflect some of the spells that were flying around. I saw Harry, Hermione and this unsorted little girl and decided to be on the train with them,"

"I didn't want the others to think that Hermione was a free-for-all for verbal abuse or anything like that, so I had her stay behind as the other students walked on a head," Harry explained to her.

"And how did you get roped into this, little girl?" a greasy dull voice of a wizard asked the unsorted girl next.

"My name is Emily Ales and I was about to leave the train when all of the fighting started. I ran into …Harry's and Hermione's compartment for safety, sir," Emily retorted back, glaring at him.

The wizard with the greasy dull voice glared at her.

"You four won't receive detentions for the rest of the school year unlike your classmates," the strict professor said, bringing them back to the topic at hand.

"What are your names, Professors?" Emily asked them curiously.

"I'm Professor McGonagall, head of Gryffindor house. This here is Professor Snape, Professor Flitwick and Professor Spourt. We will see all of you up at the school," Professor McGonagall replied and walked away.

The other professors followed after her and had the massive students suddenly lift from the ground and float to the school.

Emily gasped as it was her first school year here.

"Don't worry, when you get to be our age, you'll be bored by it," Harry said, smiling at her.

"But how can one be bored of magic?" Emily protested, walking with them to the carriages.

"I think it's just like how people can learn the art of doing hiding and reappearing tricks at a muggle carnival and people aren't that impressed by it anymore," Hermione then said to her.

The carriage ride up to the castle was a 1000 questions asked by Emily. She wasn't dull or being rude about it, just simply curious.

Harry and Neville were glad that she wasn't talking anymore of what happened within Hogsmeade. It was a disaster.

By the time that they got to the front entrance hall, Harry, Neville and Hermione really liked Emily. They also thought that she would do well within Hogwarts after Hermione gave her the entire run done on what to expect throughout her entire 7 years here.

The great hall was crowded but silent. The spell of the students being in a full body bind was still on them.

Hermione looked down quickly when she saw that Malfoy and his friends weren't in the full body bind spell.

She, just like with everyone else, didn't like his family. Draco Malfoy strutted around the school, bragged about what party his family hosted or what broom he got, and bullied anyone that wasn't pureblood or rich.

It was also, though no one could prove it, that Lucius Malfoy; Draco's father, pushed Tom Riddle to the top with dirty cold money.

An old looking wizard with a long white beard with half moon glasses and brightly cheery red robes with gold sewn within it stood at the podium near the staff tables. His blue eyes looked over everyone with a displeasing frown.

"I know that the laws have been passed, fairly quickly. Far too quickly for anyone to like. However, here at Hogwarts, it does not apply to those laws. Hogwarts has and will always be: a safe place for those who ask for it. Now, the ones who are not under the full body bind spell, I want to speak with you tomorrow morning. The ones who are under the spell, will have a year full of detentions, visits to Hogsmeade are canceled except to those who were not involved in this terrible act of hatred," The old looking wizard began.

Hermione shrank down in her seat. Even though she didn't fire any spells, she still felt the guilt and heard the disappointment coming from the headmaster, Professor Dumbledore.

"Now, when I lift this spell, none of you will fire any spells or speak with such hatred or, you will endure more than just a year full of detentions," Professor Dumbledore softly finished, peering over his half moon glasses at everybody.

Harry and Hermione watched everyone become unfrozen and shift silently. No one went against what the headmaster had told them.

The sorting that took place was completely different from what normally happens. The two rows of unsorted first years were in order of pureblood to half-blood to muggleborns.

Harry gently took Hermione's balled up fist and held it. He too was highly livid still.

The pair watched as unsorted students were sorted into their houses after the hat did its poem.

"Ales, Emily," Professor McGonagall stated loudly.

Hermione waited on bated breath as the old brown hat was placed upon the young girl's head.

"Gryffindor!" it shouted.

Harry and Hermione smiled at one another, because they truly felt that Emily was a Gryffindor in some sense.

She hurried over to where Harry was and sat down beaming up at them.

"Welcome to Gryffindor," Harry whispered to her, smiling.

"Thank you," she whispered back and the sorting continued on from there.

It was a very highly stiff scene before them. No one talked, no one looked up from their plates and no one smiled because of what the ministry had passed a few months prior.

Hermione knew that the early birds of this school, were mostly purebloods and they would set the seating "rules" during the meals.

After everyone had their fill of the quietest dinner within Hogwarts history, all of the students got up and walked to their respected houses.

Harry leaned closer to Hermione and whispered "This is going to be a fun year,"

"Harry," Hermione hissed in warning.

He cracked a smile and they walked up to where the Gryffindor tower was.

Though just like it was at dinner, it was also like that within the hallways too: No one said anything to anybody. It was getting to be downright eerie.

They made it up and to the fat lady's portrait.

"So what is the password ladies and gentleman?" she asked him, smiling.

"Erh…" Harry hesitated.

"Adulare," a prefect said from behind the group.

There was a click and the Gryffindors walked into the common room. Emily looked around in awe.

"A lot to take in," Hermione whispered low to her.

"Yes, it is, but so…" Emily tried to think of the right word.

"Beautiful?" one prefect supplied.

"No, bluntly red," she said, still looking around, smiling.

"You are Gryffindor," one of the portraits said back smiling too.

"Boys dorms are to your left, girls are on your right. Its bedtime now," the first prefect that helped them to get into the common room.

Harry pulled Hermione back as everyone soon walked to their dorms to get some sleep.

"What Harry?" she asked him.

"I just wanted to let you know, when we were leaving the Great Hall, I saw Ron. I don't know if it was a mask or not, but, it looked like he was happy with the set of people around him," Harry explained, looking at her with concern.

"What? That…that can't be…Ron would never…" she tried to understand it.

"I know, but when I got a chance to look and listen, it…it was exactly how Riddle put it in his laws. I will do more to get his side of things, but you know how Ron and his family are," Harry whispered low now.

"It doesn't matter on that, Harry. Ron has been friends with us since first year. Why would he suddenly change his mind? After voicing about how much money there isn't in their vault?" Hermione asked, biting her lower lip.

"I will see what is going on tomorrow. For now, let's get some sleep," he said, gently patting her shoulder.

Hermione nodded and they both went to their respectable dorms.
