1; something or other
He's in another unnamed country in another unnamed town, sitting on the hard bed in his dirty hotel room and wondering what to do next. He rented the room under a fake name, but everyone knows that he doesn't belong here. His skin is dark enough that he could pass for a citizen, possibly, but his accent is unmistakably American, and his eyes look shifty.
He reads the letter for the umpteenth time – there's something going on here, possibly a government overthrow in progress. It has to be stopped, because the insurgents are hostile to American interests. He needs to find out as much information as he can.
He wonders, as he often does, if this will be his last mission.
