When I Was Your Man
HE thought about their past relationship with her, the girl he thought one day he would marry and realized, there was a reason she left, there was a reason why she ran away with his best friend.
HE never took her flowers, or took her out to dance, in reality he thought she didn't really like those things, boy he was wrong. His best friend always gave her a bouquet every birthday, or each time she won an award, HE always asked why he brought her red roses, his friend would answer that they were her favorite. His best friend would always take her out dancing, he never questioned it, HE took it as Shane's persistence forcing her to do something she didn't want to.
Nate regretted never paying attention to Mitchie, she was incredible, strong, beautiful, and his selfishness pushed her away. Shane wasn't like that he was always there at Mitchie's beck and call, he was her shoulder to cry on, her best friend, and if he was being honest Shane was the love of Mitchie's life.
He contemplated all this as he held an invitation, it was a wedding invitation. He was invited to their wedding, he should have seen it coming, everybody else did. He was not prepared, not prepared to see his ex-girlfriends last name change to his best friend's last name. If that happened it would mean it was all over, Shane would have won, and Nate would never have the chance to get Mitchie back.
Maybe that was a good thing, she never seemed overly ecstatic when she was with him, but whenever she was with Shane you could not erase the light, the happiness she exuded.
They were meant for each other, but maybe, just maybe if he had treated her better when she was with him he would still be her man.
