It was the day after Heiji had let slip the "follower" comment. Kazuha was still pissed, and Heiji, true to his idiot savant nature, still had no clue why.
"What did I do anyway?" he asked Conan. "I mean she didn't have ta hit meh that hard! Anyway, what didja wanna talk bout Kudo?"
Hattori, you're an idiot, thought Conan, but he had enough sense not to say it aloud. Instead he said, "Hattori, have you ever fallen in love?"
Heiji, taken off guard by the seemingly random change of topic, gaped for a moment before replying. "No."
"Exactly," said Conan. "and that's the problem. You don't know how to tell if you're in love.
It took some time for this to sink into Heiji's dense brain. "So yer sayin I've got ah crush on someone an don't know it."
"Yep."
"So how da I tell?"
"That's what you're here for. Now… lets get started." Conan said. "I want you to think of the person who fits this description. Someone who you think about when you're feeling down, who motivates you, who you'd do anything for but are to embarrassed to tell so. Someone you get possessive over, who when you tease it's all in jest. Someone you would do anything to protect.
Heiji sat in thought for a few minutes till the answer came to him and he got the shock of his life.
"That's right," Conan said in confirmation, "you're in love with Kazuha."
Half an hour later
Heiji and Conan were walking home. Conan eyed his friend, noting that he still seemed to be in shock.
Suddenly, someone grabbed Heiji's arm. The two whirled around, only to see the worst possible person it could be at that moment. "K-K-Kazuha!" Heiji stuttered. His eyes darted down to her hand on his arm, and he wrenched his hand away and made his escape.
"What's with him?" wondered Kazuha.
Kazuha POV
She found Heiji under an oak tree, just staring off into space. "Hey, Heiji!" She called. "What's goin on anyway?"
He looked at her strangely for a minute before asking, "Can ya keep ah secret?"
"Course." She said immediately.
"Ya know tha case Kudo's on? Well it's kinda dangerous so Kudo can't come home. Tha guy talked ta me and he wants me ta not get stuck in tha same problem…" At this point Heiji broke off with a strange expression on his face.
"Kazuha tha truth is… what I was gonna tell ya is… I'm in love with Ya!" By the end of this statement his face was as red as a tomato.
His cheeks somehow managed to get even redder as Kazuha stood on tiptoes to kiss him. She pulled back, blushing a bit herself and said, "I love ya too, ya Aho.
