A/N:

I'm so excited about this story! This is just a very short set up, but I have so much more planned!

This is a more modern AU set as the gaang goes to high school in Republic City. I know Republic City isn't founded until after the gaang is older, but we're just gonna suspend our disbelief for now!

Enjoy :)

Introduction

Zuko didn't "fit in," in the traditional sense. He didn't conform, or mold himself into any of the cliques at Republic City High School. But he wasn't an outsider, either. Considering he was on the honor roll, Zuko spends much of his time studying and getting to know those classified as the 'nerds.' Being on the Varsity Pro-Bending team, he apparently earned the credibility to be invited to the massive parties for the jocks and the cool kids. He even knew and got along with the theatre kids, since his little sister was so involved in stage production.

But if there was one thing Zuko would choose above all else, it would be student government. This was where his passions lay, which was quite befitting, seeing as his father was the Fire Nation's Representative in the United Republic Council. That responsibility would inevitably fall on Zuko's shoulders, and he was determined to be ready.

Of course, it wasn't going to be easy. Zuko shook his head as he thought of all the college applications he needed to complete, not to mention balancing AP classes and Pro-Bending games and friends... All the while his father practically breathed down his neck, critiquing every move, pointing out every flaw.

"Calm down," Zuko murmured to himself as he opened the doors to his school. It was only the second week of his senior year, and he was already stressing himself out.

Taking a deep breath, he made his way through the crowded hallway towards his locker. Locker number 2814, he thought to himself, 2814, 2814. He needed to constantly remind himself. The first day of school, he spent 15 minutes trying to open locker 2418 before creating an impressive dent with his fist. Zuko's bank account, however, didn't find it too impressive, and neither locker number 2418's owner.

In his diligent search for the correct locker, Zuko saw something that made him trip over his own feet. Zuko's best mate and locker partner, Sokka, stood pressing his girlfriend against said correct locker in a very long, and quite aggressive, make-out session.

Zuko sighed.

Thank you so much for reading my work, it means a lot! It was incredibly short, but I'm planning on getting a longer chapter out within a week :) If you liked it or have any criticisms, I would be happy to hear about it! s
