Time for a lullaby

A Hulkwidow fanfiction

Natasha Romanoff had had a long day. She'd spent it, like everyday, training with the other Avengers and getting tired of Vision's righteousness. The new Avengers headquarters was running smoother than ever with Fury back in charge. Usually there was plenty for Nat to do and usually she was able to keep her mind off of him. But today he kept popping up in her thoughts. She sparred with Cap, she thought of Bruce's lips. She talked to her niece and nephews, argued with Clint, and thought about Bruce's eyes. She took a long, cold shower and thought about the one they could have shared. Exhausted and annoyed, she changed into pj shorts and a white tank top. Tony had recently put in a pool area complete with palm trees and hammocks strung between them. It was rarely used by the team and Nat had come to conclude that Tony probably knew that this would be the case but added it anyway so that he and Pepper could persuade the others to have a few drinks and go swimming with them when they came over. And, quite honestly, so that he could push a few unsuspecting fellas in. She hadn't been to see it yet even though she had been irked by the sounds of construction and compelled to go explore the empty concrete pool with Wanda right after it was built. So she decided to grab her favorite lotion and sun glasses and go sit in one of the hammocks till the lowering sun set. As she walked out she took a deep breath. The smell of late summer had always been one that soothed her and lessened her anxieties. She sat in the hammock and squeezed some lotion into her hand and began to rub it on her legs. "Ugh you're so white. How did you make it through more than half of the summer without getting an inkling of a tan?" she asked herself.

"Hey Nat body positivity is important! You look great." Cap's voice echoed in her ear. Crap! She had forgotten to take out her ear piece.

"Haha Steve," she said dryly, "Mind your own business." Then Fury's voice broke through.

"Unidentified vehicle incoming. I need someone with me at the gate, weapons ready." Then Steve's voice.

"I've got it Nat, you better not get out of that damn hammock."

She smiled," Thanks Cap." She finished rubbing in her lotion and lay back. She listened for the sound of gunfire, or for another update through her ear piece. But when neither came, she became suspicious. She should at least be able to hear Fury whispering orders or Cap or the others replying, but nothing. She stood and ran towards the building and flew open the door. She stood at a widow that overlooked the driveway. She saw a brand new Mercedes Jeep parked on the gravel road.

"Uh oh that means it's someone with money and that could be bad. What if it's someone from Federal?" she wondered. Suddenly static broke through her earpiece, then Cap's voice.

"Uh, Nat? Banner's back."
