AN: I saw the song "Almost Lover" by A Fine Frenzy (5:04) on my iTunes list and automatically, I thought of Leonard. So, I put the song on and just typed. This is what came out.
Leonard couldn't believe how long it had been.
He could remember all their times together, how close they had come. He kicked a
cigarette butt sticking up out of the sand into the ocean waves. It was Penny's
wedding today and he was trying to pull himself together so he could attend. He just
wanted to see her happy.
Penny had been planning this wedding for a long time and he wanted to see her
smile at all her well laid plans.
So damn close.
He had taken her to this beach on one of those close nights, the nights they were
almost together. She had placed a small kiss on his cheek, like she had done
before, placing a hand in his...
So damn close.
He straightened his tie in the mirror before he entered the church. He couldn't think
of those nights. He could think of the time when they had done shots together, when
he had stood up to Kurt for her...
He had to put on a good face. He was Best Man.
So damn close to being at the head of the altar. Obviously she had never felt for
him what he felt for her.
It was ridiculous, really.
He patted Raj and Howard on the back, spraying on a smile as he thought of the
times when it was his hands that touched her skin, his lips on hers.
Instead of Sheldon.
So damn close.
