Penelope Clearwater pushed up her crooked glasses.
Looked at the clock.
Sighed.
Patients coming, patients going. Same old same old.
She stroked her forehead with a strong hand and signed again.
This is what her life had become – listening to foolish people explaining their foolish accidents.
How could her young self be so absolutely certain she would become successful, someone grand?
And why hadn't that happened?
What had gone wrong?
Penelope didn't know anymore.
Maybe she didn't care. Was she finished?
