Sleep well…

Somewhere in the city of Shikkar at 4 a.m, in the darkness of a bedroom.

"Ouaaaaaaouaainnnn…Ouaaaa"

"Oh no, my God! It is too soon! …Sarek... It's your turn! "

"…"

"Sarek! I know you and your pointy ears heard me and HIM!"

"My wife…all our neighbors heard him…twice a night since two months and three weeks!"

"Good…Thank you to remind me our son's age…Now, go to feed him! The bottle is already in his bedroom!" Amanda replies, sleepily.

"As you wish, my wife..." Sarek answers, containing a sigh.

Two hours later…

Sarek still paces his son's bedroom tiredly, his baby boy laid tenderly against his torso…His baby boy very awake with his black, curious and wide-opened eyes!

"My son, I wish to speak frankly to you. This morning, I have a very very important appointment with a Tellarite delegation. I will need all my strength and my lucidity to conduct this very very important negotiation. Since your mother is not telepath, you are right in believing that your cries are the only way you have to alert your mother that you need nourishment…Nourishment which I gave you two hours ago! Now, it would be reasonable for you to fall asleep as soon as I will put you to bed…" Sarek says after doing so and while going away from the small cradle.

"Ouaaaa….arck …naar …ouaaaaaaa"

"Shhh…Don't cry again! Please, my son, your mother needs her sleep…You win, Spock…I will take you with me outside…In the garden…"

One hour later…

"Look Spock! This is T'Khut! And this is its moon…she is here as the night prior and the night prior…" Sarek says, seated on a stone bench, like almost every night since Spock's birth, admiring the reflection of the twin planet in his son's eyes which are desperately opened!

"An…ack..ihah…" Spock babbles.

"Well. I think that we need to make a deal right now! If you sleep right now, I promise to buy you a pet, no, a computer!"

"Aark…ih…acku…Ouaaa…" Spock cries again, his two chubby fists boxing an invisible enemy.

"Ok …A pet …like a selhat?"

This time, Spock's eyes are focusing on him …his breathing is slowing …and his eyes are almost closed.

"A selhat!" Sarek whispers, while staring at his son finally asleep in his arms.

Three hours later…

"Sarek, while studying your face, I noticed green circles under your eyes. I conclude that your son has occupied your night…again!"

"Yes. T'Pau."

"I suggest that you take a nursemaid!"

"Amanda would disagree. Plus I have found the solution last night." Sarek says while turning his heels. "Excuse me, I need to visit my parents."

And this same afternoon in Spock's bedroom…

"SAREK! What is THIS MONSTER?" Amanda shouts at her husband, while looking at the strange animal lying near the small cradle.

"Shhh….Amanda. Our son is sleeping…And this is a selhat…Its name is I'Chaya…our new nursemaid, sort of!"

"Our what? Are you out of your mind? You …You want me to let this…This tiger with my son?"

"Well, in fact, I'Chaya was my nursemaid when I was a child. I thought that it would be wise…"

"Sarek, I already think that your parents are…well…forget it! This animal is NOT going to stay in this house! Get OUT with it!" Amanda shouts, awakening both Spock and I'Chaya!

"OuaaaaaOuaaaaaaaaaa" Spock begins to cry loudly. Two seconds later, the selhat is above his little baby's face! Is it purring in his ear? Quickly, Spock is calm and asleep.

"You see. I'Chaya is the perfect nursemaid for our son!" Sarek says, almost smiling in front of her stunned face!

"Well… it's surprising, almost fascinating…And will I'Chaya be able to change his diapers and give him his bottle too?"

"…*sight*…"

And later that night…

Sarek is once again debating in his son's bedroom, seated in the rocking chair near the cradle, his son once again in his arms, sucking at his bottle with contentment, I'Chaya at his feet.

"In fact, my lack of sleep combined with my lack of decent meditation is probably what altered my reasoning! I must confess that your mother is right…I'Chaya is not able to feed you and all …But I'm sure that it will be a good guardian and friend for you. And now, sleep well, my son." Sarek orders.

And then, for the first time in two months and three weeks, Spock obeys his father who returns in his bedroom for a long long sleep!

The End.

I hope you liked this one-shot. These last days, I read a lot of stories about Spock's death, as a tribute to Leonard Nimoy. I cried a lot while reading them and then I thought to write about his birth to alleviate my sadness.

Thank you, Mister Nimoy and rest in peace.
