Reyna was sprinting over to the Camp Half-Blood infirmary. She visited Nico a lot. It was an older sisterly love. She had heard that Nico had to go through an important surgery. She wanted to be there. Sure enough, Will was there with Nico looking pale and sweaty. There was a needle on the table. It was clear it was his first surgery. When Will saw her watching, he walked over and whispered," Oh, good, you're here. Do me a favor, will you hold him down?" Reyna stifled a laugh and nodded. She walked over to the bed Nico was on. He groaned and said," You're gonna hold me down, aren't you?" Reyna smiled and said," And if you're smart you won't resist." Nico stubbornly shook his head. Will said," The shot's in his back." Reyna looked at him.
Then, she ran over to Nico and flipped him over. He squirmed and kicked viciously. Finally, Reyna managed to flip him over and sat down on his legs holding down his shoulder. She took his a aviator jacket and his shirt off and Will came over holding the needle. Nico started shaking, and was holding in tears. Reyna remembered he was only, what, 14 or 15. She stopped Will. She soothingly said to Nico," It's okay Nico, don't worry, you'll be fine." He had tears down his cheeks. He said," This *hiccup*is m-my first shot." Reyna looked at him quietly, taking it in. Then, she relaxed her grip on his shoulders. She rubbed his back soothingly and he relaxed. Then, Will quietly came over. Reyna nodded and leaped off his back.
Then, Nico ran out the door. Reyna and Will gave chase. They caught him, Will looking at him with disapproval. He dragged his feet so they had to drag him along. Reyna had pretty much had enough. She hissed at Nico," If you try to escape again, I'll call Annabeth, Percy, Jason, and Piper. " Nico gulped but he stubbornly kept himself limp.
Soon enough, she had to threaten him with all of the Seven (Leo had come back) and Thalia. Sure enough, he resisted so Reyna 8-way iris-messaged them. When all of their faces popped up in the rainbow she said," Nico won't stay down for his first shot, will you guys come here and help me?" Thalia eagerly agreed, along with Percy, Annabeth, Jason, and Piper. They quickly ran to the infirmary. The Hunters were visiting so Thalia got there with the rest of them.
When Nico saw them, he trembled. "Why can't we just give him nectar or ambrosia?" Percy asked. "Because if we do, he will certainly spontaneously combust." Will answered. Piper had lost her voice from the fight with Gaea so she couldn't charm-speak, not permanently of course. Anyway, Thalia grinned and she took out her spear. She ripped up Nico's shirt and Annabeth flipped him over. Piper took one shoulder and Percy took the other. Jason held down his feet and Reyna sat on his legs. Nico was now outright sobbing and was desperately kicking his feet. He kicked Jason in the nose but Jason held his ground.
Even with six people holding him down, he still was a pain. Finally, he was still enough to stick the needle into him. He screamed loudly and everyone got off. He wouldn't stop moving so blood dripped onto his bed. Soon enough, he was asleep. The 6 teens were sweating hard.
Thalia and Annabeth left and Piper went to go get Jason's nose checked and Percy had run off to go get snacks for Will and Reyna, who stayed. When Percy returned, he gave Reyna chocolate chip cookies and soda and Will got some soda and chips. Percy then ran off again.
Will and Reyna watched as they covered Nico in a sort of blanket with a hole in it for his back. He had broken a tiny piece of his spine and curved it a bit to the left. Reyna watched, fascinated, as they cut open Nico's back with a knife like tool. They then curved Nico's spine back into place and tended the broken part.
The shot hadn't been deep enough so Nico was waking up pretty early. He soon was screaming and screaming. The doctors hurried to give him another shot but not before he was sobbing and screaming in pain. They then stitched him up and put some mortal salve on his back. He was still asleep and Reyna was tired.
Then, his eyes opened and Reyna stepped forward. He was whimpering and saying," It hurts, it hurts a lot." He was crying again but he looked ashamed. When he was calm enough to say something besides "it hurts" he said," I'm sorry I was acting like a baby, Reyna." Reyna looked back at him and said," Don't worry Nico, I know it hurt and might still hurt. I forgive you."
Then, Nico almost started sobbing again. " I- I keep thinking of waking up with a knife thingy in my back and my back open and-and" he said, hyperventilating. "Nico! Calm down." His pulse was really fast. He was hysterical by now. Reyna yelled," Medic! I need a medic here! He's hyperventilating!" She looked at Nico and said," Breath Nico, breath!"
Soon, Will burst in, while he fell unconscious because of lack of oxygen. They hooked Nico up to a machine that pumped air into his lungs. Reyna watched, horrified, as Nico shook and looked at his thin form.
Reyna went to a doctor and asked," Does he have malnutrition?" The girl looked at her nervously and handed her a chart. His temperature was high, 100.2, and he was small for his age. Reyna spotted his weight and her jaw dropped. He was 82 pounds! She ran to Will, who had finished getting his oxygen back. Reyna showed him the chart and his eyes widened. He went to get some pills for malnutrition and some food for Nico.
Reyna studied Nico, who had a clear-colored mask around his nose and mouth. He finally woke up and Reyna gave him a cautious hug. Will had come back with a huge plate of food. He put it for Nico. Nico didn't want it but Reyna and Will eventually coaxed it into him.
Will left and Nico hugged Reyna tightly. He whispered," Thank you for taking care of me." Reyna looked at him and said," Nico, I will always take care of you." and kissed him. Nico looked surprised and kissed her back.
Fireworks exploded in both hearts. Then, a loudspeaker went of saying for all visitors to leave. Reyna hugged Nico softly, one mores time and left.
