The BabaDook: Part 2..
Three days after keeping the BabaDook as a family pet, Amelia was just finishing giving her son Samuel his lunch when there was a knock on the door. Sam looked up at his mother. "Who is it, Mummy?" he asked.
"I don't know, sweetheart," Amelia said, cautiously. Ever since they were visited by the Babadook, she had been tense, really on edge. Every time there was a knock on the door or when the phone rang, she jumped. Sam was on edge, too. He didn't like any unexpected visitors, and who could blame him after the week they've had, Amelia thought ruefully.
"I'm just going to answer that, see who it is," Amelia told her son. "Be careful, Mummy," Sam answered. Amelia gave him a nervous smile before turning and walking towards the door. She looked through the peep hole and saw one man and a woman, both police. "It's okay, Sam," she called as she opened the door. "Ma'am," the male police officer greeted her. "Hi," Amelia greeted him weakly. "Something wrong, officers?" she asked nervously.
The two police shared a look. "Ma'am, are you Ms Amelia?" the blonde haired policewoman asked. "Yes, that's me," she said. "Sorry to disturb you, Ma'am, but we've had rumours of growling noises coming from your basement. Would you mind if we checked it out please, so we're sure there's no injured or trapped animals down there?" the policeman asked. Amelia cleared her throat, thinking, wondering what to do. In the end, she agreed. There wasn't much else she could do, after all.
"Thankyou," the policewoman said as Amelia let them both in and closed the door behind them. "Do you live alone?" the blonde policewoman asked. "No, I live with my seven year old son, he's just had his lunch. My husband, he, uh, passed away after being in a car accident several years ago," Amelia told them. "Sorry to hear that, Ma'am," the officers said as they looked around the house.
Sam jumped up from his chair in the kitchen as he saw the two police officers approach him. "Afternoon, young man," the policeman said. "Hi," Sam said, a little nervously. "Mind if we look around?" the policewoman asked. Sam shook his head. "I don't mind," he said, before going towards his mother. Amelia smiled and hugged him. "Go on, go and play in your bedroom now, Sam. I'll sort this out with the police. Don't worry, just play and have fun, okay?" she asked him. Sam nodded and hugged her back. "Yes, Mum," he said, smiling before kissing her on the cheek. He then ran upstairs and into his room, closing the door behind him.
"So, do you have any pets at all, Ma'am?" the police woman asked. Amelia nodded. "We had a dog, called her Bugsy. But she died from old age, so we buried her," Amelia explained. The officers nodded as they surveyed the kitchen. "It all seems normal in here," the police officer remarked to his blonde partner. "Yeah. Let's check the basement," the blonde policewoman said.
