Prologue

The tent was dark at the moment, and from her camp bed, Rose listened, staring at the beige ceiling, to Albus's soft snoring. She knew Scorpius, two beds away, was doing the same, as she could see his pale eyes glinting in the darkness.

She suddenly sat up.

"Scorpius?" she called softly.

"Yeah?"

Scorpius yawned and frowned at her.

"My backpack's glowing purple... What d'you reckon it is?"

"I don't think it's a Portkey," Scorpius approached it, cocking his head. "A Portkey would glow blue... I think someone enchanted it."

Rose giggled. "That sounded lame, Scorp."

"Then, find a better explanation, yourself," the blond boy retorted, sounding grouchy now. He did not like helping people at night, especially when he was half-asleep. He yawned again. "Maybe you should Banish it outside," he suggested, climbing back into his sheets.

Deciding Scorpius wouldn't be much help, and being strongly against waking Albus in the middle of the night, Rose got her wand and did a Revealing Charm on it.

A halo appeared, morphing into a vortex.

Rose frowned. She definitely knew what that was – a Time Travelling Portal. She also knew that if she did not enter it quickly, it would begin sucking up other occupants of the room.

She Summoned a piece of parchment paper and wrote a messy goodbye note, and then looked towards the chilly vortex.

"Here I come," she said with a shrug, and stepped in.
