Tohru wakes up, startled. She rolls over in bed and reaches out an arm. She feels around for Kyo, but he isn't there.

"Kyo, where are you?" Tohru whimpers.

She has just awoken from a nightmare and needs consoling.

Tohru sits up, rubbing her eyes in the process. She stretches and slips on her slippers while her nightgown flows fluidly around her thighs. Looking around the room awash in moonlight, she yawns then trudges to the door.

"Kyo, are you out here?" She whispers into the hallway.

There is no reply.

Tohru starts to panic and she can feel her heartbeat speed up. Maybe he's just downstairs, she thinks, trying to calm herself.

She glides down the steps into the living room.

"Kyo?"

No response.

Tears start to slide down Tohru's face, leaving behind a glittering trail in the moonlight.

"Tohru?"

The lights suddenly flip on revealing a rumpled Kyo in pajamas, hands on his hips.

"Kyo, I was so worried! I had no idea where you were! I got really scared and I wanted to be close to you, but you disappeared! Why did you leave in the middle of the night?" Tohru's tears pick up pace and she slumps against the wall.

Kyo immediately bounds over and wraps Tohru in his embrace.

"I'm sorry, Tohru, I didn't mean to frighten you. It's really anti-climatic because all I did was go downstairs to make a couple rice balls. I just got hungry. I'm really sorry, please don't cry."

Tohru buries her face in his chest and Kyo reaches up a hand to stroke the back of her head. He can feel her tears soaking into his t-shirt. In an effort to make her feel better, he slips his arms behind her knees and back, hoisting her into the air – bridal style. He carries her up the stairs back into the bedroom. He carefully lays her down on their bed, while gently caressing her forehead. Kyo peels off his soaked shirt and climbs in next to her.

"I won't leave again, okay?" Kyo whispers.

Tohru gazes up at him with shining brown eyes, "Stay with me, please?"

Kyo kisses her softly, "Always, you're my girl."

Tohru closes her eyes and smiles.

"Why were you scared, Tohru?" Kyo murmurs.

"I had a dream… that you left one day… and never came back," Tohru's words were simple and to the point, but her voice was heavy and Kyo knew she would soon drift off. "I ran outside… and called your name… but there was no… response. I sped up… and down streets… in town… asking… people… if… they saw… you…"

Kyo couldn't help smiling at how cute she is when she talks half-asleep, but he worries that this nightmare will bother her for a really long time.

"You know I am never going to leave." Kyo reassures her. "I don't want you to ever have a doubt in your mind about that. I would rather live in the pouring rain, naked, than desert you."

Tohru sighs, content, "Thank you… Kyo… I love… you."

Kyo chuckles softly, "I love you too, Tohru. Go to sleep."

"But… I'm… not tired…" Tohru mumbles.

"Oh, but I think you are."

"No…pe…"

"What day is it?"

"Why… it's… today…" Tohru says, while sleep-giggling.

Kyo smirks and kisses her on the forehead as she drifts off to sleep in his arms.

"I'm really glad I have you." Kyo whispers to the sleeping girl on top of him.

And with that, Kyo himself slowly floats off to follow Tohru to sleep.
