A thin smile crosses my lips. I look at the sky as I hold a pokeball in my hand. I sigh. I grasp my necklace, a present from my sister, it gives me my strengh, it is a part of me. "Hey kid!" A voice. I turn to find a man with his hands on his hips grinning. "See you've got a pokemon, I'll battle ya." he says. I laugh. The man looks pretty sure of himself, he thinks this will be an easy win. I smile and nod at his request. He seems pleased and grins even wider. I will wipe that grin off his face. "A 3 pokemon match, for $10.00, now...Go!" the man yells and throws out a red topped ball. A Marowak. I laugh at the mans foolishness, never send out your pokemon before your opponent or he will have the type advantage in battle. I throw my ball, which produces one of my prized creatures, Wartortle. the man does not realize his disadvantage and instead orders his pokemon to attack. I see th creatures eyes glare underneath it's mask of bone. It chucks the bone it grasps in his paw towards Wartortle. A miss, badly thrown I remark. The man narrows his eyes as he commands his creature to use the attack again.
"Water gun" I say. The Marowak screams in pain as it falls, 1 hit knockout. The man scowls and once again produces a ball which he throws. An Exeggutor. Each of it's heads smile, devishly, as if possessed. This time the man has the type advantage but no matter, I know Exeggutor's grass moves are limited, it's only true damaging attack is...
"Solar Beam!" the man yells. I am stunned, the most powerful grass attack. The pokemon nods and begins to collect sunlight.
"Withdraw." I say and my pokemon retreats into his shell. The beam comes and Wartortle emerges unharmed. The man is furious, however it was a simple move, the best strategy is to use a combanation of both offensive and defensive attacks. I withdraw my Wartortle, for it cannot defeat such a beast. I send out another one of my beauties, Arcanine. The man knows he is about to taste defeat. "Flamethrower." I command and the Exeggutor falls after being hit from the powerful spray of fire. The man is crushed, he obviously thought he would have the win. He sends out his final, a Poliwhirl. I must now rely on non-fire attacks I think to myself.
"Water Gun!" the man yells.
"Agility." I say calmly and my Arcanine jumps over the beam of water and knocks the Poliwhirl down. "Take Down" and Arcanine jumps on top of Poliwhirl. It's weight is so much that it knocks it out on impact. I have won. I recall Arcanine back into his pokeball. The man runs up to his Poliwhirl and makes sure it's ok. It gives him a thumbs up and he smiles back at it. Friendship... so overated, my pokemon are not my friends, they are my weapons, and they accept that. The man has been humbled by me and is quite suprised at the quick knockouts his pokemon recieved. He has been humbled and reluctantly hands over the $10.00. A small sum but well worth it. I turn to walk away.
"Wait kid! Whats your name?" the man says. I turn and look at him.
"I am Gary." I say, and walk away, leaving the man to think about his loss to the great Gary Oak. I will be a Master.
