In the Line of Duty
"This city," I say, it's gone mad,"
"Whatever can I do?"
"Go with the flow," a blueshirt says,
"It's the only thing to do."
…
"But there's carnage on the streets," I say,
"Shooting, carjacks galore."
"The perpetrator's not arrested,"
"No matter how abhorred."
…
"We've even had the Army in,"
"Along with SWAT and FBI."
"But he's always on the streets again,"
"Is the law not sanctified?"
…
"Even if we shoot the creep,"
"To hospital he goes."
"Then he's back out on the streets again,"
"To cause us much more woe."
…
My partner, he begins to speak,
But we see it, two full stars.
Up ahead, the perp is running,
So we both get in our car.
…
But then he pulls out…bloody hell,
A rocket launcher grand.
Then a tank appears from nowhere,
This madness, I can't stand.
…
We bail out as people run,
Gone's all civility.
I shoot with my tiny popgun,
But he's got invincibility.
…
In my final moments on this earth,
I let out a prayer to God.
But cheat codes keep me silent,
As unfair as PC mods.
…
So a rocket leaves me wasted,
I guess I'm out of luck.
In my last moments, I reflect,
Police work really sucks.
