Fighting for the Road Not Taken
By: Kristen
Summary: Harm knows what he wants, and now he is about to take a journey down the road not taken. This picks up right at the end of the show, What If?
Spoilers: What If? (By far, my favorite show this year!!!)
Disclaimer: Please don't sue me, I'm poor. All characters within are not mine, because if they were, Harm and Mac would have been together by now!
This is my very first JAG Fanfic. Please read and review, good or bad!!
Chapter 1
"Yeah, I was just pondering the road not taken…yet."
Harm followed behind Mac, leaving the restaurant. The group stood outside saying their good-bye's, and then parted their separate ways. Harm felt sort of nervous standing there, but yet at the same time, a certain calm had washed over him. It was all clear to him now. He knew what he had to do.. fight for Sarah Mackenzie.. win her back. He knew now more than ever that he couldn't lose her. The last thing he remembered from his dream at the table was her final words before the admiral brought him back to reality:
"I'm ready. Are you?"
She may be with Webb, but Harm really felt that he hadn't lost her yet. He couldn't lose her. She was his everything, his world, the only one he could ever be with. He felt the loss of her presence deep within him, and he felt his heart in his throat as he watched her drive away. His Sarah. His best friend in the whole world. The one he wanted to be with now, and forever. He fought for her in his dream, and be damned, he would fight for her now. He was ready.
The question now was, how to do it.
Harm thought back to all of their past. Sydney, her engagement, the kiss on the Admiral's porch, crashing his plane on the way back for her wedding, Paraguay.. He began to realize just exactly how many times he had screwed up by not telling her, in those exact three little words, how he felt about her. It was so clear now that it was scary. He had resigned his commission, everything, to go after her and rescue her in Paraguay. All of these things he had done out of love for her. But, he never told her that. He had always been so afraid before, but now the thought of losing Sarah Mackenzie was so much worse than saying those words. Harm was never ready to take the chance, to risk everything, to give up everything, to have her. But now, it was time. He knew she was still there, and still waiting for him. She may have said they would never work, but he knew better. Mac.. Sarah.. just needed him to tell her that he loved her.
"That's right," Harm thought, "I love her! I Love Sarah Mackenzie!!"
He wanted to dance in the streets, he wanted to shout it from the highest mountain.
The time had come. He knew he needed to talk to her, to go to her.. tonight. He had no idea how he was going to do it, only that somehow he ended up in his car and was on his way to her.
It was time to take that road not taken. And their was no time like the present to begin that journey.
AN: Sorry for such a short first chapter. I still need to figure out exactly where I want to go with this, and how I want to do it. Please review and let me know if I should continue. I will be working on more as time permits, and posting more ASAP.
