Bit by bit.
Say, have you always been like this?
Say, if another reality exits, you and I, maybe… maybe you would look like an innocent child that lost his way home. And then you would endlessly cry until I meet you and grab your hand while I start telling you that everything is okay; that you really (really) can rely on me because I'm with you. As if I'm you, but in a sense of complement. That if we are together, we are completed. That, and so you would smile so honestly that I would feel like crying inside.
Like now.
But, you know, even if I grab your hand now; even if I tell you that you are not alone, you won't be able to listen. You won't be able understand, for technical reasons mostly (because this is our reality, because of Sybil system, because of Makishima lying on the ground at the opposite side and everything else).
And because.
"Say, have you always been like this?" Akane asked softly while looking at the desperate face of Kogami, who couldn't be heard when he said that yes, always, so she should stay with him, and then they would understand this new world, that they were (finally) able to live―.
But reality was only that, Akane thought inside a stormy haze between her, Kogami saying something, and the world suddenly disappearing bit by bit.
