Amy watched the Doctor as he went about fixing his Tardis again. That seemed to be the only thing he did when they were on board. The Doctor brushed past her and she saw something fall from inside his jacket. Amy bent over to pick it up. It was a gold shard, probably a piece of something.

"Doctor?"

"Hmm?" was the only response she got.

"This fell out of your pocket. Care to tell me what is?" Amy held up the gold shard.

The Doctor glaced up at her then stared at the thing in her hand. An odd expression passed over his face. Then, without warning, he grabbed it from her and stuck it back in his pocket. Amy was stunned, but she was determined to get an explination out of him.

"Excuse me, what was that?"

"What was what?"

"You just snatched that old broken thing out of my hand for no good reason. I'm not moving until you at least tell me why."

The Doctor gave a sigh of defeat. No use in not telling her now. "It was a friend of mine's. A long time ago."

Amy huffed. "Well, where's she now?"

The Doctor stared at her, confused. "Who said he was a she?"

Amy's eyes widened, surprised. "You're friend was a boy?"

"I've traveled with a handful of male friends thank you very much."

"Fine, where's he now?"

The Doctor turned away from her. "He's gone."

"Gone where?" Amy was starting to get a little impatient. "Where is he, Doctor?"

"He's gone," he started to tear up. "He's dead."

"Oh, Doctor, I'm so sorry."

"Don't be that happened a long, long time ago."

"How'd he died?"

"He was on a spaceship, just above Earth. Cybermen were attacking. I was too late to save him. The ship exploded. But, I had his star with me." The Doctor held up the shard. "It's broken now, as you can see. But I keep it as a reminder. He sacraficed himself to save the human race. I reminds me to keep fighting for this tiny little planet, to never give up."

They sat in silence for awhile until they were interupted by the Tardis acting up. Amy took it as a hint to leave. She started to the stairs, then stopped and turned to face the Doctor, who was now busy tinkering with his time box. She wanted to leave him be, but she had a question burned in her mind.

"Doctor, what was his name?

"His name?"

"Yeah."

"Adric. His name was Adric."
