Author's Note: Man, I'm really depressed now. My brain was buzzing and I had to write something before my muse escaped me once again. And this is the result.
Very short, very sad. My take on what was going through L's mind in that horrible Episode 25. It is also sort of my take on Light's transition to Kira. I have a theory that Kira is sort of like the voice in Light's head, struggling to take over him completely. It's something I started thinking about while watching this episode, actually, and it's just become stronger and stronger. I do believe Kira officially took over Light Yagami the moment he started smiling.
Disclaimer: I do not own Death Note. I make no profit from this. Believe me, I wish I had no cause to write this. I wish this had never happened. I wish I could turn on the TV on Saturday night and see L sitting awkwardly in a chair, snacking on candy.
The pain was incredible. He wanted to scream, but he couldn't find his voice. It felt like his heart was bursting. He dropped his spoon, following it to the floor. Immediately, he felt Light's arms wrap around him as they both crashed to the floor.
Yes. L knew they were Light's arms. Kira would never have gotten dirty for him. L forced his eyes to focus as he looked up at Light, the pain in his chest almost unbearable. Light was looking back at him, eyes wide with shock and fear. Everyone was shouting his name, confused and scared. Then Light's features began to twist. It wasn't Light who was staring down at L anymore. It was the thing Light has been fighting for so long. The thing that had sprung from his innocent hatred of things that were wrong. The thing that was now completely in control.
He had tried. He had tried so hard to appeal to Light. He had tried so hard to try and help him realize that it wasn't too late.
And now Watari was dead. And so was he.
And so was Light.
The ugly smirk that was spilled across his features told L so. Kira had taken over.
He had won.
Darkness faded in and L's eyes began to close. He felt his heart stop. He felt the pain leave.
He felt the overwhelming sense of defeat that was crushing him more than that horrible smile was. It was pounding him, beating the life out of him. And Kira was there, holding his body, smiling as he saw the light fade from L's eyes.
And L was there, being held, dying as he saw the light fade from Kira's.
Somehow, L felt more sorry for him than for himself.
And then it was dark.
