………………………….
"I don't need you," the words slipped from his mouth before he could think of what he was saying. But then, Wyatt Halliwell was always the on-your-toes person. He was brawn while Chris was the brain, the calculation in their early kills.
The tall blonde saw the pain flash behind grey-blue eyes. Behind Chris stood his assassin, Chris's fiancé.
"Of all the people to betray me," Wyatt begins, and Chris feels aggravation. He hasn't had a good sleep since he was last in this dimension, and he doesn't feel like he has the energy to do anything.
But he will.
"I didn't go back to betray you Wyatt," I went back to save you, Chris thinks. The elder Halliwell pays no attention. Wyatt doesn't hear Chris anymore.
But after their words, the demons vanish, the brothers fight and Bianca prepares to die. Even with the fury of brother against brother, all they can hear is "I don't need you" over and over again, repeating as it slipped through Wyatt's lips. Chris feels empty. He opens the portal, tears the page from the Book of Shadows and jumps into the portal. Bianca is gone and he will save the world, for her, for Wyatt.
Watching this, something claws in Wyatt's gut. I didn't mean it… he thinks desperately, but Chris is already gone.
……………………
Walking from the attic, he stops in the doorway to Wyatt's crib. The baby doesn't turn on his shield, but looks at him, trusting and curious. Is it play time? The baby wonders.
Chris just stands in the doorway, looking at the toddler but his mind far away. "If I can't save you, I swear to God I'll stop you," and he stays there another moment. When he finally comes back to his own time, his face takes a look of pain so great that he bows his head and looks away. He picks himself up and prepares to leave. He knows it was a lie.
"Shield on Wy," he says softly, and the blue orbal perimeter peaks on.
He'll never be able to do it, I can't hurt Wyatt. He'll do everything, anything, to save his brother. Even die. He orbs away to the park he mentally connects with Bianca, and makes a thousand promises to himself.
But when he threatens Wyatt, he knows it's just a lie.
……………………….
END.
