Now You Know

A/N: I wrote this before Jason arrived at the hospital on the show.

Jason Morgan rushed into the hospital. As soon as he received the call from Maxie Jones, telling him that Spinelli was in the hospital he had stopped everything to get there. What the hell had happened that had required Spinelli in the hospital? He stopped at the nurses' station to ask for Spinelli's room number when he heard a voice behind him,"Spinelli's been worried for you."

He turned around and saw Maxie standing there. The petite blond was dressed as perfectly as always in her designer dress, but Jason could tell just by looking at her that she hadn't really been sleeping. "What happened?" he asked, looking down at the girl as she began to lead him to Spinelli's room.

Maxie pushed her hair out of her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest, protectively. ''Spinelli and I where on a stakeout, trying to find out what Sasha Donut was up to. Spinelli was sure that you were lying about having an affair with Sasha and he wanted to protect you. Spinelli got out of the car to investigate and I got out to stop him. Before I knew it,a car was speeding torwards us and Spinelli shoved me out of the way. I heard the car slam into him and the windshield smash. When I looked over...he was on the ground, laying so still, and the car had sped away." Maxie had stopped at the door of Spinelli's room, staring down at her shoes with eyes filled with tears. She still couldn't believe Spinelli had saved her nor that she had almost lost him. She didn't know what she would have done if he'd died. She had really come to depend on the computer hacker. He always saw the best in her. He'd been her shoulder to cry on,her friend, her biggest supporter and protecter...and for one night he had been her lover. She shook her head slowly to rid her mind of these thoughts and walked into the room with Jason. She hoped, seeing Jason would cheer Spinelli up. She felt happiness fill her being when she saw Spinelli sleeping peacefully.

Jason took a seat in the black, plastic chair beside Spinelli's bed. He watched the rise and fall of his young friend's chest before asking Maxie,"Did you or Spinelli see who drove the car?' He straightened out Spinelli's blanket, feeling proud of the young man. He had saved the girl he loved, risking his own life without a thought. How was it that Maxie didn't see that Spinelli was in love with her? He couldn't help but chuckle at that.

Maxie shook her head slowly, wondering what he found so amusing. "It was too dark out to see who it was and their headlights where really bright. They hit Spinelli on purpose though. If I hadn't been there..." She trailed of,covering her eyes.

Jason saw the bandage on Spinelli's forehead and the black and purple bruises that marred his pale face. "Hey buddy,I'm sorry I couldn't get here sooner. I was really busy and just found out what happened." He spoke softly and straightened up Spinelli's blankets.

Maxie watched in aw as the man she had accused over having no emotions, fussed over Spinelli. It was a strange sight to behold. Who would think the man who could kill without a thought could be so caring? She would never be Jason's biggest fan,but in that moment she understood him. He cared for Spinelli because Spinelli didn't judge and was such a loyal friend. Spinelli was caring to a fault and seemed so innocent and pure that you felt the need to protect him from everyone. Sometimes even yourself. You never wanted to hurt or disappoint him. Maxie understood completly, although she was sure they cared for Spinelli in different ways. Jason seemed to love Spinelli like a brother while Maxie was in love with her best friend, someone she thought was too good for her. And now she knew.
