A Bouquet of Roses
A/N: I was super bored and I had a sudden impulse to make a one-shot, so here it is! You might be able to tell from the title that it's going to be contestshipping, and it's from Drew's perspective. It's pretty much an event that happens at Kanto between contests.

The first rose I gave her was because as a coordinator, I had definitely underestimated her. But she still had a long way to go. She was a little naïve, but she didn't give up and didn't stop trying so I admired her a little for that.
The second rose was because she had improved since I last saw her. It was a 'good job' thing more than anything. As a coordinator she was learning that the bond between you and your pokemon was the biggest of all.
I don't remember how many roses came after that. But gradually, the roses became more or less like a routine- and I enjoyed seeing her face when she received one- not that I'd ever tell her that. And she grew, both as a person and a rival. Anyone could see that. I saw it most of all.
Maybe all of the attention flew to her head a little too much while we battled at the contest semi-finals. Nevertheless, she beat me only to be beaten by Solidad, the girl who had defeated me long before. She was crying, and the rose I gave her then was both to comfort her and to scold her for getting to ahead of herself.
It wasn't until after we battled again, that she realized the deeper meaning of the rose I had given her before. We both sat at the cliff, talking until the sun set and I gave her another rose, this time to express my feelings.
Roses to me mean so many different things. They're gifts in my eyes to a little girl who was extremely ignorant, but she was trying. And that little girl had grown into a beautiful young woman, who understood the world more.
There's something else that I haven't told her yet, either. As I gave her more and more, the roses became my confessions of love.
