Chapter 1 – How they met

My name is Naruto Uzumaki and I was born in the wave country.
I've lived my whole life with my mother above a restaurant that sells really nice ramen. She named me after the fishcakes on the ramen. (Apparently it was all she would eat during the time she was pregnant with me.)

It's always been just the two of us, me and Kushina.
But every year on my birthday I'd make a wish.
A wish that someone else could be there too, this was my father.
And every year when he didn't come, I'd ask my mother to tell me the same story.
The story of how they met.

"You never get tired of this story do you?" asked my mother as she hugged me on my fifth birthday.

"Once upon a time, there was a young ninja named Kushina, who one day decided to get out of her own village and see the world. Little did she know, that fate was waiting for her on her journey." my mother said with a smile, probably having a nostalgic moment.

"And fates name was Minato. He was also on a trip to see the world. They fell madly, passionately and hopelessly in love and were married in a small village far away from their homes."

"I always love that part!" I giggled. "I know sweetheart." My mother said as she hugged me closer to her.

"Then Minato took her to his home in Konoha, to meet his family and so they could get married for real in front of his villages' council. But fate was not so kind this time. Kushina was definitely not the type of woman Minato's village wanted to see him with. After all, he was next in line to become the hokage, the leader of his village." She said.

"But when the previous hokage died, everything changed for Minato. There was a lot of pressure on him to succeed him as the next hokage and lead a certain kind of life that Kushina just was not suited for. Unfortunately, Kushina was nobody's idea of a lady." At this part my mother always got a sad look on her face and tears in her eyes.

"So even though it broke her heart, she knew she had to leave him." A tear fell down her cheek. I never knew what to do, so I just gave her a bigger hug.

"But a few months later, fate gave her the greatest gift of all!" my mother exclaimed. "A beautiful baby girl, named Naruto!" This was always the moment when she planted a thousand kisses on my face and told me to have sweet dreams.

My fifth birthday was also the day that she gave me my first and only picture of him, Minato, my father. I stared at it, until long after I was supposed to go to sleep.

I wondered if i would ever meet him...
