Letting Go
By Chibinaoka
As Taichi stood in the cold, he silently watched Sora slowly walk away from him. He couldn't bring himself to speak at that moment, all he could do and all he had done was just watch that timid little smile curve its way onto those beautiful lips he had long to kiss for so many years. He swore his heart skipped a beat when those soft cheeks flushed ever so slightly as that sweet voice spoke to him. If only he had been the reason for those blushing cheeks, that timid smile and those sweet tender words that had escaped her lips.
But he wasn't.
No, Taichi didn't protest as Sora spoke, and truth be told, he wasn't sure what he would have said if he had somehow managed to voice what he had been feeling. Taichi felt a mixture of emotions at that moment. His heart ached, but it wasn't the same ache he had been carrying for so long know. No, now it was a different kind of ache. It hurt. It hurt so much to hear those words come out of her mouth. He wanted to scream. He wanted to protest and just declare his love for her. Tell her to choose him instead.
But he didn't.
Instead, Taichi stood there and listened like a good friend does. He supported his friend, his best friend, with a gentle smile and friendly squeeze of her shoulder. After all, Sora was and had always been his best friend. They where confidants, partners, friends. He had been a shoulder for her to cry on as was she in his times of needs. All those times that he had just held her close as she quietly sobbed in his arms when she was troubled suddenly came rushing back to him as he noticed her figure slowly moving further and further away from him. He found himself in her place now, wanting so badly to trow himself into her arms now so he could plead and beg for her not to. He bit his lips, holding back the tears. It hurt. By god it hurt so much right now. He was letting her leave, letting her go after another, someone who had been his other best friend. He thought to himself he should be angry. Angry her, angry at him. He wanted to scream. He wanted to scream at the top of his lungs that he hated her and him.
But he didn't hate him and he certainly didn't hate her.
He loved her. He loved her so much and with all his heart and soul. He always had and he suspected he always will. It was that love that gave him the courage to do what he just did. He let her go. He was her best friend and he loved her so deeply. More anything he wanted to see her happy. More then anything he wanted to see that sweet smile on her face all the time and for those beautiful ruby eyes to never be filled with tears again. He loved her so deeply like he had never loved another.
So he let her go.
As soon as Sora was no longer in his sight he looked up at the sky, smiling weakly as he mumbled under his breath:
"I love you, Sora... Farewell, Sora... Farewell..."
The End
