"Really John, you want Rupert Giles of all people to succeed you as Buffy Summers' Watcher? Are you insane?" Travers asked.
"Do you not believe in second chances, Travers?" Merrick asked the other Watcher.
Travers snorted. "I've never had much faith in people, be they Watchers or otherwise."
Merrick sighed. "If that's true, my friend, then I truly pity you. For without faith and compassion for mankind; this war we fight is meanless."
Again, Travers snorted. "While I find your view on mankind touching; I still don't believe that the Council will allow Rupert to succeed you, even though he is your godson."
Merrick smiled. "I have faith Travers that the Council will see things my way. Even if you don't."
