Chapter One

"You can't always run away from your feelings," he shouted after her as she ran out of the cafeteria. She ran as fast as she could, finally coming to a stop in front of the portrait of the fat lady. Hermione knew Draco wouldn't be able to enter the common room since he wasn't a Gryffindor. She was crying so badly that the fat lady let her through without even asking for the password. Hermione dashed up the stairs, she needed time to think. Draco gripped the staircase handle tightly. She just refused to accept her feelings. He looked around the Great Hall, everyone had already looked away. His thoughts went back to the past few days how could he have honestly believed that this was real? It had all been too good to be true. He slowly walked down the steps that led to the Slytherin dungeons. After muttering the password he climbed through to the common room, there he saw Crabbe and Goyle. He sat down in an empty armchair next to them. He put his head on his hands, while Crabbe and Goyle looked at him sadly. Finally Goyle spoke up, "So she's gone then?" he asked. Draco looked up at his friends nodded, and stood up. "I'm Going to go to bed," he said and walked off while his friends said something about going down to dinner. They knew he would want to be alone. Draco walked slowly down the steps and laid himself fully dressed on his four poster bed, torturing himself with thoughts of Hermione, and trying to figure out where exactly he had gone wrong. He should have known. How could he not have seen this coming? He knew he would try to get her back. She loved him…didn't she? He drifted uneasily into sleep. Dreaming only of Hermione. And even in his dreams he couldn't have her. He ran after her along long corridors and when he finally got near enough he stretched out his arms to hold her and she disappeared. Crabbe and Goyle walked in later that evening to see their best friend sweating profusely, muttering incoherently in his sleep. They looked at each other and felt guilt tear and their insides.
