A/n: Because there is a severe lack of BRS fics.
Where did she come from? All we know is that the why, at least part of it, was to shoulder Mato's pain and suffering. But who would willingly take up so much responsibility for someone they had never even met?
A fragment taken from another being's soul… I am nothing more than a shadow trained for the purpose of protecting my Hikari: my lighter half and my savior.
Black Rock Shooter. The name was whispered among the Guardians as nothing short of a legend, passing from mouth to mouth until stretched and warped beyond recognition. She was a symbol of determination; the star pupil and the first of her years to reach Level Three in more than a century.
Unlike a human school, the Misery Guardians Academy focused solely on physical fitness. To move up a Level -their equivalent of a human 'grade'- the would-be Guardian would have to prove him or herself able to handle the intensive training in a specialized test. You could spend a year attempting to Level Up, or a decade. Status and age had nothing to do with each other.
On average, a Guardian would apply for Level One at the age of ten, reach Level Two by their fifteenth year, achieve Level Three at twenty, and quite possibly never get to the elite Level Four.
Black Rock Shooter, however, was already Level Three at the tender age of thirteen, and rumors insisted she was getting her own On'nashujin (A/n: Mistress)if she could pass her final exam. After that, her only duty would be to fight. Fight to the best of her abilities, never showing mercy and pushing on until she collapsed. Even after collapsing, she'd pull herself together and keep pushing on.
Of course, you already know that last part. What you came here to find out is the before, and it shall be told. I just need some hot chocolate first.
A/n: What'cha think? I promise the next chapter will be longer!
