"Hey Korra, you got a second?" Bolin asked, as he, Korra, Mako, and Asami were resting in the main living room on Air Temple Island.
"Yeah" Korra replied.
The avatar and the earthbender made their way to one of the more private rooms in Air Temple Island's compound.
"So Korra, I really don't understand what's going on with you and Mak-"he began.
"Uh oh, I knew this had to be coming at some point." Korra interrupted.
Bolin blushed, "Yeah, I just want to know why you chose him instead of me, I mean I thought we had a blast on our date, and that everything was going to move forward from there, but then I saw what happened after that probending game with you and Mako, and ever since we got back from the South Pole you and Mako seem extra close…"
"Bolin…. I…. I'm sorry, there was nothing at all you did wrong, but… I love your brother." Korra replied.
Bolin looked Korra in the eye but then turned away shamefully. The two sat in silence for a moment, the avatar feeling guilty and the earthbender trying not to tear up.
"Why do you love him?" Bolin asked suddenly.
"What?" Korra said wearily.
"Why do you love my brother?" Bolin asked in a stern voice.
Korra felt baffled and didn't know where this was headed. "Well, he's always there for me, and he makes me think about other people first, I just feel like he completes me." Korra said, sounding very sure of herself when she said the last part.
Bolin nodded and said "Is it because I was too carefree?"
Korra sighed, she was deeply saddened to hear those words, she didn't want Bolin to think there was something wrong with him, it was her, she was the one who pulled away and went for someone else, she had already felt awful at the fact that she had hurt Bolin, she didn't want it to happen again. "Bolin" she started softly, "You did everything right, there is nothing wrong with you, your nice and funny and easy to get along with, do not think that you're the one who did something wrong."
"But you still chose him over me" Bolin stated sadly.
Korra bit her lip, she hated that Bolin was hurting, "Bo, there is a great girl for you out there, I just know it, one day you are going to make that girl very happy."
Bolin looked at Korra and smiled softly, "Yeah I know, wish it was you though."
"Bolin, you have no idea, I'm not good enough for you, but I'm looking forward to seeing that day when you find the person you love." Korra said.
"Me too" Bolin said, and they walked out of the room to rejoin the others.
