Title: Glitch.
Author: Casshirek
Summary: Chisa encounters an interesting package. I think I might have the dubious honour of writing the first Lain fluff fic ever. c.c Don't kill me..o/~ PWP, although this might lead to a darker (fortunately) sequel.
"Joy." Chisa thumbed distractedly through the brillant cerulean pages, unimpressed with the amateur attempts of the software maker. She was, on the other hand, impressed with the way they chose the colours. No other manual in history was more capable of blinding the user. Chisa averted her gaze. "Not a good start."
It was always the geek that they imposed upon, always the outsider who had far too much talent and not enough courage to tell them no. Chisa was the unfortunate victim that day. Dismantled package laid in a state of disarray on her bed, the neccessary equipment ripped from their glossy wrappings the moment she came home.
"Installation complete." The Navi informed her in siblant tones. "Do you desire to initialize the programme?" So cold. She had modelled the voice after her mother but it remained cold. Chisa would always remain separated from the only place she had ever felt comfortable in.
"Yes." How sad.
Her screen blinked out. There was the sudden flash of blue eyes. Massive blue eyes that glittered like sapphire pearls. Before the image could register, it vanished. Chisa leaned forward in anticipation. Two pink things that she only describe as rose-coloured mittens held onto the bottom of her screen. A shock of verdant green peeped between them. Slowly, surely, a head rose from nowhere, furtitive blue eyes arrowing straight into her own. Within moments, the remaining components emerged and the strange character, who was no more than two inches in height, made himself known.
"Hi!" The figure began to worry his uniform, a dashing tuxedo complete with flowing cape and minature tophat. "Are you my new friend?" The look on the chibi's face made fluffy white bunny rabbits look like denizens of a nightmare in comparision. "Because, if you are ... I need a name. Will you name me, please?" The chibi advanced onto the screen, a pink mitten-hand pressed against the inside of the glass.
"Alphonse."
As strange as the introduction might have been, nothing prepared Chisa for what followed. Rays of light shot from the top of the screen and bathed the newly-coronated Alphonse in amber. Alphonse wore a look of reverence that would not have been amiss on a person saturated with drugs. Chisa twitched in her seat. The rainbow came next, sweeping across her screen to be followed by a pair of obese bluebirds. The music followed shortly after, the type of grateful hymns you got everywhere.
"I have a name!" Alphone proclaimed exhultantly. Blue eyes grew wobbly, filling with crystalline tears even as he turned grateful face to Chisa. He sniffed cutely.
Chisa stared. "Someone must have had a brain glitch."
